Early Life and Career Beginnings

Jude grew up in Detroit and was a part of a family that was very active in church. She was present there on most days due to her family, and it was during her time there that she became more exposed to music, as their church was very music-focused, and she began participating regularly there. Eventually, their pastor started a performing arts school near where she lived. She joined the school, singing in a choir, learning how to dance, and getting drama lessons.

Wanting to make it big in Hollywood, she moved to Los Angeles after matriculating from high school. She began auditioning for acting roles, but it was difficult.

She then tried singing, and working as a backup dancer, leading her to be noticed by LA Reid’s Epic Records, and she signed a deal with the company, working as a backup dancer and songwriter. In 2009, she made her film debut in the short “History of Made up Things” in which she portrayed the character, Whitney.

Continued Acting Work

In 2010 Demorest made her television debut, appearing as a guest in the television series “Jonas” which aired on the Disney Channel. The show starred the Jones Brothers and was meant as a vehicle for them to gain more exposure to help with their music and acting career; the show ran for around two seasons.

Two years later, she worked on her first song, writing for the soundtrack of the Nickelodeon sitcom “How to Rock” called “Last 1 Standing”. At around the same time, she had a small, uncredited role in “The Ghastly Love of Johnny X”. The film was her first musical project, is heavily influenced by the culture of the 1950s, and starred Creed Bratton and Reggie Bannister.

Afterwards, she made a guest appearance in the show “Hollywood Heights” which aired on the Nickelodeon sister channels TeenNick and Nick at Nite, and was based on the telenovela “Alcanzar Una Estrella” which aired in Mexico.

The show ran for a season and was known for a multi-episode guest appearance of actor, James Franco. After a few years of searching for more opportunities, she then got one of her biggest roles in 2014.

Dallas and Rise to Prominence

Jude was cast as the recurring character Candace in the 2014 season of “Dallas”, created as a revival of the soap of the same name which aired throughout the 1980s. It brought back many stars of the original series while also introducing many other characters. The show ran for three seasons before being canceled due to ratings crashing.

She then worked on the independent films “Axiom” and “Bipolar”, and afterwards, she made a guest appearance in “The Middle”, about a lower middle-class family and their struggles in various aspects of their life.

During these years, she also became more active as a songwriter, and began collaborating closely with the band Fifth Harmony. The girl group was formed during the second season of “The X Factor”, and rose to fame in the early 2010s following most of the music gaining fame on social media; some of their most popular songs include “Worth It”, “Boss”, and “Work from Home”, credited as a co-writer of the latter”, and later worked on their song “Down”. She also closely worked alongside rapper and singer Brooke Candy for her single “Nasty”.

Breakthrough – Star

In 2016, Demorest gained her first lead role in a television series, as she was cast in the show “Star” as the character Star Davis, alongside Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady, which followed the lives of three aspiring singers as they began their journey in the music industry. The show has become known for its use of original music and musical sequences, and numerous celebrities have made guest appearances in the show, including Benjamin Bratt and Queen Latifah. The show also featured Amiyah Scott, who was just the third openly transgender person to appear in a big television series as a major character.

The show aired for three seasons, and during this time she became responsible for writing several songs, including “This & That” and “Madonna”. The show also helped launch her music career, as she released singles such as “Davis Street” and “There for You”, both of which were songs that she wrote. One of her latest songwriting credits is for “Bounce Back” by Little Mix, another girl group who this time came from the British version of “The X Factor”. In 2019 it was announced that “Star” had been canceled, and since then she hasn’t yet engaged in any new works.
