Where is Jorge Garcia in 2020? Wiki Bio
Jorge Garcia was born in Omaha, Nebraska USA, on 28 April 1973, so his zodiac sign is Taurus and he holds American nationality. He is an actor and a comedian, perhaps best known for playing Hugo Reyes in the TV series “Lost”, while he is currently mostly focused on his career as a stand-up comedian.
Early life and education
Jorge spent the first couple of years in Omaha, where he was raised by his parents Humberto Garcia who was a doctor, and Dora Mesa who was teaching at a local high school.
The family then moved to San Juan Capistrano, and Jorge attended San Clemente High School where he became interested in comedy as well as in wrestling which he was good at, and was nicknamed ‘Baby-Faced Killer’ by his peers. He went on to attend the University of California, Los Angeles graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in communication in 1995, and from there he enrolled at the acting school Beverly Hills Playhouse.
Jorge became interested in stand-up comedy while attending high school, and occasionally attended stand-up performances at local bars with his friends. He entertained his peers with his jokes and was advised by his friends to pursue a career in comedy.
Career as an actor and other ventures
Jorge auditioned for many roles at Borders Books and Music at the start of his career and although he didn’t win any, he appear in several commercials, and the one for Jack in the Box helped him gain recognition, as it was often shown on TV.
He made his debut film appearance in “Raven’s Ridge” in 1997, and then appeared in movies such as “Tomorrow by Midnight” in 1999, and “King of the Open Mics” in 2000. He made his debut TV series appearance in the same year in “The Wild Thornberrys”, and then portrayed a taxi driver in a single episode of “Spin City”.
He was cast to portray Teddy in the short film “The Slow and the Cautious” in 2002, and then appeared in the direct-to-video “Tales from the Crapper”, and the film “Old School”. He acted in a single episode of two series of “Columbo” and “Rock Me Baby”, before being invited to play the lead role as Hector Lopez in the “Becker” comedy TV series, which stars Ted Danson and Hattie Winston, and follows Dr. John Becker who is leading anything but a normal life.
In 2004, Jorge began portraying Hugo ‘Hurley’ Reyes in the TV series “Lost”, which also starred Josh Holloway and Yunjin Kim, and follows a group of people whose plane crashes and strands them on a mystical island which seems to be the home of a powerful and unnatural being.
He was awarded two Alma Awards, one for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a TV Series and the other for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama TV Series, while he was nominated for six others. He was a member of the main cast until 2010 when the show finished after 108 episodes. While shooting for “Lost”, he appeared in many films, such as “Little Athens” in 2005, “Deck the Halls” in 2006, and “Sweetzer” in 2007 among others.
In 2012, he portrayed Dr. Diego Soto in 13 episodes of the TV series “Alcatraz”, and then voiced Rodrigo in the animated series “Phineas and Ferb”.
He played Rick in the film “Cooties” in 2014 and Lurch in the movie “The Wedding Ringer”, before winning the recurring role of Jerry Ortega in the TV series “Hawaii Five-0”, for which he was shooting through 2019 when the series ended. Some of Jorge’s latest roles have been in movies “Get a Job” and “Rock Dog” in 2016, while he has recently been cast to portray Jerry Ortega in a single episode of the TV series “MacGyver”, set to be released in 2020.
He has been a stand-up comedian for years now, making his debut performance in 2005 at a local pub in Los Angeles. Jorge is also a co-creator of “Kaiju Podcast” which began airing on 14 November 2016, with Jorge and his co-host Ralph Apel using it to talk about kaiju films.
Love life and relationships
Jorge started dating Bethany Leigh Shady sometime in 2007 according to the IMDb movie rating website, and the two were together for several years before splitting for unknown reasons – rumor has it that they dated until 2013, just a month or two before Jorge met Rebecca.
He started dating actress Rebecca Birdsall in 2013, and the two moved in together in 2015 with both of them often uploading pictures of themselves together onto their social media accounts. Both of them are huge lovers of animals, and they have a pet dog and a pet cat which are living with them inside their home.
They married on 22 June 2019 at a small ceremony held at Leixlip Manor in Dublin, Ireland, attended by only their closest friends and family, and spent their honeymoon in Greece. Jorge and Rebecca don’t have any children together.
Hobbies and other interests
Jorge is interested in comedy, and has explained that the only way for him to stay sane in the world full of mean people is to joke about everything. He likes to travel and has been all around the US as well as to several countries in Europe with his wife, such as Greece, France and Germany, while his favorite place is Hawaii, where he has his own house and where he usually spends summers.
Jorge is interested in music with some of his favorite performers and bands being ZZ Top, Bob Dylan, and AC/DC, while he has been featured on the album “Hurley” of the band Weezer – the entire album named after the character Hurley that Jorge played in the TV series “Lost”.

1 | I have been sent three or four scripts for television series, but there wasn't anything I really wanted to do. I want to tell a good story, whether it's a TV show, a movie, whatever. That's really my No. 1 criteria. |
2 | There's certainly pressure to find your audience early. You need to paint the picture, but it's tough trying to find the balance between a show that people can tune in on any given week while still grabbing the people who are there every week. |
3 | J.J. Abrams is definitely a guy that when he calls, you want to answer. He's incredibly focused. When he was shooting the pilot on 'Lost,' we'd do a take and he'd go back to his tent and be working on the first episodes of 'Lost' as well as the cliffhanger for the eighth season of 'Alias.' He's an incredible multitasker. |
4 | People don't really want to know what happens. They ask you for just a second, but then they don't want to know. |
5 | I just enjoy the ride while I have it. |
6 | You can get fired from any job at any time. |
7 | I'm perfectly happy doing nothing. I'll hang around the house and take the dog to the park. |
8 | That's always a cool thing to be the voice of what the eyes are seeing. It gives you the role of the Greek chorus and that's always fun to do. |
9 | I have gotten used to working in the dark and I dig it. |
10 | I definitely try to mix humor into anything I do, even if it is into a drama. |
11 | Life is very nice in Hawaii. I rent a place that has its own cottage so when my friends and family come to visit, they have somewhere nice to stay. |
12 | I used to work at this store called Music Plus in San Clemente, California, when I was growing up, and then they became Blockbuster Music, and, like, you had to get a haircut to work there, and at the time I had some pretty long hair. So after that policy was imposed, I knew that was going to be my last summer working there. |
13 | Mixing humor and harsh reality is a very human behavior, it's the way people stay sane in their daily lives. |
14 | Bad people are intriguing! |
