Who is Kelsey Grammer?
Allen Kelsey Grammer was born in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands USA, on 21 February 1955 – his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American nationality.
Having been active in the film industry for 41 years now, he is perhaps still best known for his portrayal of the psychiatrist Dr. Fraiser Crane in both the comedy series “Cheers”, which aired from 30 September 1982 to 20 May 1993, and the spin-off “Frasier” which aired from 16 September 1993 to 13 May 2004.
Kelsey was raised in Saint Thomas alongside his sister Karen, by their father Frank Allen Grammer, Jr. who was a musician and the owner of a coffee shop, and their mother Sally who was a singer and actress. He had a rather rough childhood as his grandfather died from cancer in 1967, and a year later his father was killed when thieves entered their house.
His sister Karen was kidnapped, raped and murdered in 1975, and five years later, his two half-brothers drowned while scuba diving. Kelsey studied at Pine Crest School, at which he fell in love with acting, and later continued his education at Juilliard School, however, after the death of his sister, he was expelled from Juilliard as he wasn’t attending classes.
He launched his acting career in the late ‘70s when he began performing at the Old Globe Theatre, and later at the Guthrie Theatre. In 1981, he appeared in his first Broadway play when he played Macbeth in the eponymous play written by Shakespeare, and the following years saw him appear in many plays, while he made his TV series debut in 1982.
He has been acting to this day, and has won 28 awards including three Golden Globes, two for his performances in “Frasier” in 1996 and 2001, and one for “Boss” in 2012 – he’s been nominated for 62 other awards, including six Golden Globes.
During the ‘80s and ‘90s, Kelsey was addicted to both alcohol and cocaine, but eventually got through it with the help of religion, as he has stated. He suffered a heart attack while he was paddleboarding with Camille on 31 May 2008, and his personal assistant Scott MacLean saved his life. It was later reported that the heart attack was rather dangerous, and could have killed him as his heart had stopped pumping.
