She is an actress who became famous in the US after portraying Detective Aiden Bur in the police procedural TV series “CSI: NY” and Tammy Gregorio in the action crime police procedural series “NCIS: New Orleans”.
Early life and education
Vanessa’s maternal grandparents came to New York from Italy before her mother was born. Vanessa had a rather rough early childhood, as her father was a drug addict who overdosed on heroin when Vanessa was two years old.
Her mother went on to marry a hairdresser, and the two opened their own hair salon.
Vanessa grew up being interested in the film industry, and wanted to become a model and an actress. While she was attending a local high school, she was a member of the school’s drama club, and appeared in most of the school plays. Upon matriculation, she decided to focus on her career rather than to enroll at a college.

Vanessa launched her career as a model while still attending high school, and signed her first contract with Wilhelmina International Inc., one of the most popular modelling agencies in the US.
She made her debut film appearance in 2002, portraying Jordan Nash in the drama “On Line” followed by her role in “25th Hour”, while the role that helped her career the most was of Lizette Sanchez in the movie “Undefeated” in 2003, which won her a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People nomination for an Outstanding Actress in a TV movie. The year 2004 saw her portray Louise in “Spider-Man 2”, and Gina in “The Tollbooth”, followed by her appearances in “Man of the House” and “Shadowboxer” in 2005.
