What is Kodak Black’s real name?
Kodak Black was born in Pompano Beach, Florida USA, on 11 June 1997 – his zodiac sign is Gemini and he holds American nationality. He is a rapper and singer-songwriter who attracted attention with the release of his single “No Flockin” on 27 July 2016, and which reached #95 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
He was born as Dieuson Octave, and later changed his name to Bill Kahan Kapri before adopting his ‘stage name’.
Early life and education
Kodak was raised an only child in Pompano Beach by his mother who was a Haitian immigrant, and the two lived in Golden Acres which is a Pompano Beach public housing project – nothing is known about his father, and it’s believed that he abandoned the family not long after Kodak was born.
Kodak attended an elementary school at which he became interested in rap music, and started making music himself at a local trap house. Decisive about becoming a rapper, Kodak read thesauruses to enrich his vocabulary and write better lyrics. He had outlaw friends with whom he occasionally committed breaking and entering, as well as engaging brawls which eventually led to Kodak being expelled from his elementary school while attending fifth grade. He later stated in an interview that he had an option to choose between selling drugs or becoming a rapper.
He was just six when he chose Lil’ Black as his stage name, later changing to Kodak Black.
Career as a rapper
He was 12 when he launched his career as he joined the band Brutal Youngnz, stayingd with them for over a year before joining the rap band The Kolyons. In December 2013, he launched his solo career with the release of his debut mixtape “Project Baby”.
His second mixtape “Heart of the Projects” came out in December 2014, followed by his third mixtape “Institution” a year later. What really made Kodak popular was the video that the famous rapper Drake uploaded onto the internet which featured him dancing to Kodak’s song “Skrt”. Only a couple of days following the upload of the video, Kodak signed a contract with Atlantic Records.
He went on to collaborate on the song “Lockjaw” with French Montana, and it appeared at #23 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. Kodak released his new mixtape “Lil B.I.G. Pac” in June 2016, which peaked at #18 on the Heatseakers Albums Chart, and #49 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. There have been many other controversies surrounding his name, including the time in January 2017 when he went live on Instagram filming a woman giving oral sex to him and several of his friends. He has stated that he prefers light-skinned women over black women, as he believes them to be easier to break down while he was also the center of attention in April 2019 when he claimed that he will wait to have sex with the American model and actress Lauren London, whose boyfriend Nipsey Hussle, a rapper, was killed in a shootout only a couple of days prior to his statement.
