In 2002 while preparing to release her fourth album, Braxton discovered she was pregnant with her second child, and was confined to bed until she gave birth to Diezel Ky Braxton-Lewis in March 2003. Shortly after his birth, Diezel was diagnosed with autism, and that was the reason why Braxton became the international spokesperson for people with the affliction. Her problems didn’t end, as she a benign lump removed from her breast in 2008, and in April of the same year she was hospitalized, and had to cancel all the shows scheduled.
In 2010, Braxton was diagnosed with micro vascular angina, meanwhile her husband Keri was diagnosed with pericarditis, which is an inflammation of the sacs surrounding the heart, and some sources suggest that Braxton’s brother Michael Jr was also diagnosed with the same disease. Braxton became bankrupt due to her very high spending as she later admitted on an interview, and the famous singer said that Keri didn’t help her, and wasn’t the supportive man she wanted him to be.
After years full of ups and downs, the 12-year love story between Lewis and Braxton came to an end. The couple announced their separation in 2009, and finalized the divorce in 2013. However, the couple decided to both take responsibility for their children, and in 2015 they finalized the child support case.
The reason for the divorce according to Braxton was money and her lupus disease; Keri quickly responded to the claims, denying that it was about money or the disease but rather Braxton’s wish to end the divorce.
