Beth Maitland was born in Rapid City, South Dakota USA, on 12 May 1958 – her zodiac sign is Taurus and she holds American nationality. She is an actress and a sound recordist, who might be known best for having portrayed Traci Abbott Connolly in the romantic drama “The Young and the Restless”, created by Lee Phillip Bell and William J. Bell, and which starred Doug Davidson, Eric Braeden and Peter Bergman. It has been airing since 1973, currently counting over 12,000 episodes – Beth appeared regularly in the series between 1982 and 1996, and has been playing one of the supporting characters since 2001.

For her performance, Beth won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role in a Daytime Drama Series in 1985, and was nominated for a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Young Leading Actress in a Daytime Series in 1986. Beth spent the first seven years of her life in Rapid City, then her family moved to Scottsdale in Arizona. She has one sister, Ashley and they were raised by their father who was a theatre actor, and their mother who was a singer.

Beth became interested in acting during her first years at elementary school, and was encouraged by her teacher to join the school’s drama club, subsequently appearing in plays performed. By the time she completed her elementary education, Beth had already appeared in plays performed at several theatres too. She attended a local high school at which she continued acting, and also started practicing singing but soon learned that she wasn’t very talented. Beth planned on pursuing an acting career, but was urged by her parents to obtain her degree, which is why she enrolled at Arizona State University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and theatre in 1980 – she also practiced acting at the Los Angeles Film Industry Workshop.

Career as an actress

Beth worked at various night clubs to financially support herself while working her way up in the film industry. She made her debut movie appearance in 1987, when cast to appear in the comedy “Plaza Suite” written by Neil Simon, directed by Roger Beatty and Kenny Solms, and which starred Carol Burnett, Dabney Coleman and Tim Conway Jr. Around 12 years later, Beth got to play Deaf School Principal in the musical drama film “Mr. Holland’s Opus”, which starred Richard Dreyfuss, Glenne Headly and Jay Thomas, and received mostly positive reviews, while it won five awards and was nominated for four others, including an Oscar.

She made her debut TV series appearance in 2007, when cast as Traci Abbott Connelly in a single episode of the romantic drama “The Bold and the Beautiful”, which has been airing since 1987.

The two married in a private ceremony on 1 October 1989, attended by their closest friends and family and not long afterwards Beth gave birth to their daughter. After what appeared to be almost three decades of a happy marriage, Beth and Christopher divorced quietly in 2018 for unknown reasons.

Christopher was born in Kewadin, Michigan USA, on 26 December 1955 – his zodiac sign was Capricorn and he held American nationality.

He worked in the sound department during the shooting of 47 movies and TV series, and in 2012won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing for a Drama Series for “All My Children”.

Beth wasn’t physically active while attending high school, and was bullied because she was overweight – she envied her sister who was very attractive, and Beth found comfort in diet pills and getting high.

One day, she got very high, drove her car into a tree and nearly died, after which she started seeing a psychologist, eventually stopping smoking and taking diet pills. She also gained an interest in working out, playing sports and going for long walks, which helped her recovery, and weight loss.

One of Beth’s main hobbies is travelling, and she has been to many attractive locations in the US as well as to several European countries such as England, France and Spain.

She is a lover of animals, with cats being her favorites.

Beth has her own favorite actor and actress, whom are Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, while a few of her favorite movies are the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Edward Scissorhands” and “Mr. and Mrs Smith”.

Weight loss

Beth wanted to lose weight early on in her career but wasn’t allowed to because the directors of the series “The Young and the Relentless” wanted her the way she looked, however, they gave her their permission to lose weight in 1987, and Beth hired a personal nutritionist and started having several training sessions a week at Gold’s Gym – she lost around 55lbs in only a couple of months.
