Early Life, Education, and Performance Beginnings

Tara is of Persian descent, specifically from the Parsi who left Persia and are identified with their religious practice of Zoroastrianism. She grew up alongside a twin sister, and at a young age aspired to a career in the entertainment industry. Wanting to become a great performer, she began studying many dances which she was interested in; she took lessons in modern dance, ballet, and even learned various dances popularized in Latin America. She later trained in the UK at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), known for being one of the largest dance organizations in the world with schools in 79 countries, and which she attended throughout her youth.

Other schools she trained with include the School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance, as well as the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing. She also displayed a natural singing ability, and consistently appeared in competitions, even performing in operas as a child.

Continued Education and Acting Career

After matriculating from high school, Sutaria enrolled at St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science, and Commerce where she studied for a degree in Mass Media. The university was established in 1983 and is known for its focus on undergraduate courses, having a regular attendance of over 4,000 students.

While completing her studies, she was already active in the entertainment industry, first joining Disney Channel India as a teen, in which she was mainly a video jockey. Her close association with the company eventually led her to be cast in various advertisements, films, sitcoms, and even music recordings. One of her earliest professional endeavors was in the musical “Grease”, in which she portrayed the role of Sandy.

Rise to Fame

Tara became known for her songs and recordings, leading her to travel to various countries to perform. She visited Lavasa, Mumbai, Tokyo, and London as a part of a tour with Disney.

She also collaborated with other performers such as Louiz Banks, Mikey McCleary, and the Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble – her vocal ability and her operatic experience also helped in this regard, and she was nominated for a Pogo Amazing Kid Award.

However, her fame truly rose when she was cast in the role of Vinnie in the show “The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir”, an Indian adaptation of “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”. Afterwards she had a leading role in the show “Oye Jassie”, playing the titular character in the show which is an Indian adaptation of the American Disney program “Jessie”.

In 2019, she auditioned for the role of Princess Jasmine in the film “Aladdin”, and was a finalist for the role but ultimately lost to Naomi Scott.

Hindi Films and More

She then made her film debut in “Student of the Year 2”, alongside Ananya Panday and Tiger Shroff, which was intended to be the sequel to “Student of the Year” which was released in 2012, but is a standalone story. The film’s actresses were well received, but it did not fare so well with critics, due to its poor script and lack of depth, and didn’t do well at the box office. However, Tara earned praise for her looks and performance, leading her to be nominated for a Filmfare Award.

Her next project would be in the action film “Marjaavaan”, in which she portrayed a mute teacher named Zoya. She worked on the film alongside Rakul Preet Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, and Riteish Deshmukh, and for her role she had to learn sign language, but again, the film didn’t fare well with the critics – many disliked the fact that her mute role only left her with scenes of smiling and crying.

Her next project is the film “Tadap” which is directed by Milan Luthria. She’ll star alongside newcomer Ahan Shett in the film which is still under production.

She also signed a new contract for a sequel to the 2014 film “Ek Villain” in which she will work alongside Disha Patani, John Abraham, Aditya Roy Kapur.

Aside from these films, she also appeared in the music video for “Masakali 2.0” by Zoya.

Personal Life

Tara is single and doesn’t intend on looking for any long-term romance yet, as her acting career is just beginning. She is childhood friends with actor Armaan Malik, though there is no romantic connection between them.

During her free time, she enjoys traveling the country and also does some modeling as a hobby. She continues to enjoy stage performances, dancing and singing, though with her fame, she’s mostly invited to events as a guest or judge.

She is also a fashion enthusiast, and loves the design style from the 1990s, often adapting it to her current look with a more modern twist. She likes wearing gold jewelry, and has admitted that she is obsessed with beauty products. She likes wearing make-up too; some of her fashion idols include Cindy Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor.
