Jane Wymark was born in Paddington, London, England on 31 October 1952 – her zodiac sign is Scorpio and she holds British nationality. She is an actress perhaps still best known for her portrayal of Morwenna Whitworth in the romantic history drama series “Poldark” which has been airing since 1975, and which also stars Robin Ellis, Angharad Rees and Clive Francis. The series is about Ross Poldark who comes back to Cornwall to meet his love after fighting in America in 1783 – Jane was shooting for the series in 1977. It won one award and was nominated for five others including one Primetime Emmy.

Childhood and education
Jane was raised alongside her brothers Dominic and Tristram in London by their father Patrick Wymark who was an actor, and their mother Olwen Wymark who was a writer and a playwright.
Jane became interested in acting at a very early age, as her parents took her onto the sets of the movies and TV series they were shooting for. She was a member of her high school’s drama club. and appeared in nearly all the plays performed there, as well as several at a local theatre. Upon matriculation in 1970, she enrolled at Birmingham University from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 1974.
Roles in TV series
Jane made her debut TV series appearance in 1975, when she portrayed Susan in three episodes of the drama series “Rooms”, which starred Jenny Twigge, Ian Redford and Anne Dyson, and which follows various drifters as they rent rooms at a house. In the same year, Jane played Julia in the episode “The Future Ghost” of the family horror series “Shadows” which starred Neville Barber and Gwyneth Strong, and which is a collection of horror stories made for kids.
The following years saw her appear in a single episode of the horror mystery series “Beasts” and the mini-series “Fathers and Families”, before she was cast to play the supporting character Diana in six episodes of the drama series “Rob Roy” in 1977.
In the same year, she appeared as Terry in the episode “The Bass Player and the Blonde” of the comedy drama series “ITV Playhouse”, and then reprised her role in three episodes of the drama series “The Bass Player and the Blonde” (based on the episode of “ITV Playhouse”). Her next role came in 1980 when she played Cass Rudolf in the drama series “BBC2 Playhouse”.
After taking a 10-year break, she played Claire Griffiths in seven episodes of the drama series “Chalkface” which starred Michael Higgs and Andrew Livingston and which is about the lives of children and people attending a British comprehensive school.
Jane guest starred in single episodes of the thriller series “Children of the North” in 1991, comedy crime drama series “Screen One” and the crime drama series “Between the Lines” both in 1992, followed by further guest starring roles in series “Drop the Dead Monkey”, “Maigret”, and “Screenplay” among others. In 1994, she played Anne in the episode “A Landing on the Sun” of the drama series “Screen Two” which was a huge success, winning 39 awards including a BAFTA Film Award while it was nominated for 45 others, and she appeared in several other critically acclaimed series, including “No Bananas” in 1996, “Pie in the Sky” in 1996 as well, and “A Touch of Frost” in 1997.
Jane was then invited to guest star as Mary in the episode “The Midas Touch” of the comedy series “the Boss” in 1997, which starred Jim Broadbent and David Schneider and which is about Peter who is a bank manager, and his employees and customers. She went on to appear in several series such as “Underworld”, “Dangerfield” in 1998, and “Sinchronicity” in 2006 while her latest notable performance in a TV series has been in the crime drama mystery series “Midsomer Murders”, in which she portrayed the lead character Joyce Barnaby appearing in 81 episodes out of 127 between 1997 and 2011. The series also starred John Nettles and Barry Jackson, and is about a detective and his sergeant who investigate murders in Midsomer County.
The series won an Online Film & Television Association TV Hall of Fame Award for Television Programs in 2014.
Roles in movies
Jane has only a couple of movie roles credited to her name. She made her debut film appearance in 1982 when she portrayed Anne in the short drama film “The Sidmouth Letters”, directed by Nicholas Renton and written by Jane Gardam and Paula Milne, about a man who, after reading some personal letters, believes he has learned about the hidden side of Miss Jane Austen.
Her following role in a film came in 1990, when she appeared in the drama “The Fool” which starred Derek Jacobi and Cyril Cusack, and which follows the upper and lower classes living in London in the Victorian Age.
In 1995, Jane portrayed Gertrude in the drama film “All Men Are Mortal” which starred Irene Jacob and Stephen Rea, about an immortal man who falls in love with a depressed actress, and in the following year, she played Forest of Dean in the comedy drama film “Giving Tongue” which was directed by Stefan Schwartz and written by Emma Fortune.
Her latest role in a movie has been in 2014 when she portrayed Chorus in the drama film “National Theatre Live: Medea” which starred Helen McCrory, Danny Sapani, and Michaela Coel and which is about Medea, a woman hurt after finding out that her ex-husband is remarrying.
Love life and relationships
Jane has been keeping the details of her personal life hidden from the media, while it is known that she has been married to Paul Howson, a British Diplomat, since the 1980s.
The two could have rarely been seen attending events together and they don’t have children as they both decided to stay focused on their careers, while a rumor has it that either Jane or Paul are not able to have children. There have also been rumors circulating the internet that the two divorced as they haven’t been seen spending time together in the public lately, but have kept this hidden because it would have a negative effect on their careers.
Before Paul, Jane was in a long term relationship with her college sweetheart, and they dated for three years before splitting ways for unknown reasons.

Jane grew up being interested in art including painting, sculpting, and architecture, and she has attended numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums.

She is a big lover of animals and has had several pet dogs and cats, while her favorite animals are horses and she is a rider. Travelling is her main hobby, and Jane has been all around Europe for both work and pleasure, with some of her favorite cities being Rome in Italy and Athens in Greece, while she has also been to the US on several occasions to shoot for her movies and TV series.
