Career Beginnings
Erica’s career started in the late ‘90s as she joined PC Week Radio, the online news program for the PC Week magazine, as a production assistant. Also, she was a conference co-ordinator for the Software Publishers Association Europe during her time at PC Week Radio, but then joined TechTV as a part of the TechTV News program. She held the post from 2000 to 2003, and from 2001 to 2003 she was the co-anchor and a correspondent on TechTV News, which was at the time renamed TechLive.
While working for TechTV, she was live on site of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
First Stint With CNN
Thanks to her hard work, she was recruited by CNN in January 2003 as their new general news anchor, and was assigned to various programs. The following year, she was named the new national correspondent on “CNN Newsource”, but quickly progressed, and from 2005 to 2006 she was the co-anchor on the show “Prime News Tonight”, then in 2006 Erica was named the new anchor of the show “Prime News”, retitled to suit her as “Prime News with Erica Hill”.
This lasted until 2008, when she became a full-time member of the show “Anderson Cooper 360°”, having previously contributed to the show from 2005. To speak further about her contribution to CNN, Erica was the co-anchor of “CNN Tonight” from November 2009 to January 2010, at which point she left CNN to join CBS full-time.
Switch to CBS and NBC News
Two years before she left CNN, Erica started contributing to CBS; she was recruited as the co-anchor on the show “The Early Show”, though only for its Saturday edition. However, two years later, she was named the new host as a replacement for Russ Mitchell on the weekday edition of the show.
She continued to expand her role on CBS, anchoring “CBS Evening News”, and also joineing “CBS This Morning” in 2012. Furthermore, Erica was the Special Correspondent for CBS News, contributing to a number of shows on the network.
Then in November 2012 she joined NBC News, co-anchoring “Weekend Today”, and also assuming the position of an NBC News national correspondent. However, she left the show in 2016, stating that she wanted more time for her family, though remaining as a contributor to MSNBC and NBC Nightly News.

Although she left “Weekend Today” in April 2016, on the 6th June 2016 she rejoined HLN as the anchor of the daytime news program. In addition, she got her own show – “On the Story with Erica Hill” – which lasted until 2018.
