Childhood and education

Ellen was raised in Milford by her mother Rachel Muth who was an actress, and her father Dr. Erich Muth who is the most famous optician in the US – he was once The National Optician of the Year, and the Smithsonian Museum has an entire sector donated by him, while another museum carries his name.

Ellen attended a public high school where she became interested in acting, so her mother took her to her first audition when she was 14. At the time she was appearing in all of the plays organized at her school, and was also physically active, playing a variety of sports. By the time she matriculated, she met famous American actress Marlo Thomas, who invited Ellen to study acting at The Lee Strasberg Institute on a full scholarship.

Ellen graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre in 2003.

Love life and boyfriend

There have been rumors circulating the internet about the popular actress being a lesbian, due to the fact that she has portrayed several teen gay characters, however, it is believed that Ellen is simply a good actress and is straight (or bisexual).

In 2004 she began dating Jeffrey Donovan, a noted actor known for portraying Michael Western in the series “Burn Notice”, but that was for less than a year – Michael is today married to Michelle Woods and they have a daughter Claire and a son Lucas together. He was raised alongside his two brothers by their mother Nancy Matthews, as their father left when the boys were still babies, and the family was very poor. Jeffrey found comfort in acting while attending Amesbury High School, and then studied at Bridgewater State College, eventually switching to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama in 1990, while he received his Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre from the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Today, Jeffrey is most famous for starring in series such as “American Bikers”, “Burn Notice”, and “Shut Eye”.

Ellen has stated how she would like to become a writer after she’s done with her acting career.

#Quote
1'What do you really think happens after you die?' That's the question that everyone, everyone, everyone asks. And I'm so sick of it. But my true answer is, I don't know. And there's no way I'm going to find out 'til it happens.
2It was something she didn't want me to do because she thought the rejection would ruin my self-esteem. My father was, like, 'If she wants to try it, let her try it.'
3Oddly, because she has that confidence, the people around her like her more. She becomes more a part of the Reaper family, and she also is able to get along with people more outside of their circle as well.
4Oh, she just happened to be a friend of the producer's. Or, oh, they've been trying to get her from the beginning and she just had a spot open up. There are always little loopholes, so I don't take anything personally anymore.
5Things that go on at Happy Times are very funny this year, and if you were watching last year, some of the people you saw then as basically extras emerge as real characters in their own right this season, at least to some degree.
6This season is a lot funnier, not as dark, mainly because, well, she has accepted the fact that she is dead. She knows she cannot go back to where she was when she was alive.
7Early in last season, George was very worried about other people's emotions, especially how they saw her, and felt she was outside looking in. This year, she still hopes people will accept her for who she is, but if they don't, she's OK with that.
8Ever since I was a little kid, whenever my parents would have company over, I would put on shows, whether they would be magic shows, singing shows, dancing shows, little skits.
9I find that the majority of the actors I've worked with are extremely sensitive people and very spontaneous people. That's why I always say I'll never date an actor, because they're in love with you one day and the next day they're not.
10I'd hope to reach any kid who feels apart from the group - those who seem to be outsiders, who feel different. Kids who want to reach their parents often don't know how to do so.
11I'm playing George quite a bit differently this season, and I'm glad you picked up on the fact that she kind of made peace with her situation at the end of last season.
12First, I used some of my own experiences and observations from attending a public high school. Secondly, I joined in some Internet chat rooms for gays and lesbians.
13There were times when there were parts that I was sure I got and then I didn't, and I did get upset. But at this point, it doesn't affect me in the least because I know how the business works.
14I hope the film will help mothers and fathers to be aware that 15 is a very vulnerable age.
15If I did anything 'next,' I would do writing.
16Oh, she didn't schlep me. I schlepped her, actually. I was the one who wanted to be an actress.
17I feel most comfortable playing and creating characters who are least like myself.
