She had to move to Atlanta in Georgia to work for TWC, in the position of an on-camera meteorologist (one of many who worked for TWC). Heather appeared on TWC for the first time in January 1999, and while she was mainly in charge of doing live-air work, she also produced animal welfare and pet cat stories and appeared in these.
She stayed with TWC for almost 14 years, when in 2012 they let her go after the company was sold to three companies which decided to cut the workforce.

Since early 2017, Heather has been working as a part-time meteorologist at The Weather Company, an IBM Business (former TWC). When she was let go, the company was owned by NBCUniversal, Bain Capital and the Blackstone Group, and the three companies sold the already renamed The Weather Company to IBM on 29 January 2016, however, they remained the owners of TWC cable network until early March 2018, when it was sold to Entertainment Studios.

Heather is the mother of their two children, but has been keeping their names as well as her husband’s hidden from the media, as to give them an opportunity to lead a normal and private life.
