She has a twin sister Ashley, an older brother Trent, and a younger sister Elizabeth. However, their parents divorced in 1996, and from her father’s second marriage, Mary-Kate and her siblings have two half-siblings, named Taylor and Jake. She went to Campbell Hall School located in Los Angeles, and later with her twin-sister attended New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
Career
Starting in 1987 as a baby, Mary-Kate and Ashley starred in the role of Michelle Tarner in the TV series “Full House” until 1995. Throughout the ‘90s, the twins starred in a number of films, including “To Grandmother’s House We Go” (1992), “Double, Double, Toil and Trouble” (1993), “It Takes Two” (1995), and others.
The two became very successful in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, growing to become teen stars – Dualstar Entertainment Group was made to produce films starring the Olsen twins. Some of their films included “Passport to Paris” (1999), “Our Lips Are Sealed” (2000), and “Holiday in the Sun” (2001).
They continued to expand their popularity, and Mary-Kate’s name and face was used in magazines, on posters, for fragrances and even fashion dolls, which were sold from 2000 to 2005. However, in the second half of the 2000s, Mary-Kate became more focused on other interests, and after featuring as Tara Lindman in the TV series “Weeds” (2007), and starring as Kendra in the film “Beastly” in 2011, her last role, she eventually retired from acting in 2011.
Fashion Career
Since then, alongside her sister she has started the luxury fashion brand The Row, and a lifestyle brand Elizabeth and James. Furthermore, they have also launched fashion lines for non-celebrities, Olsenboye, and StyleMint. The first Elizabeth and James perfume was released in 2013, while StyleMint has been selling since 2015 in the UK.
Known for her unique style, she has often been credited on the lists for best and worst dressed celebrities at events. Here is a recapitulation of some of her most memorable looks.
Dating, Health Problems, and Net Worth
Mary-Kate wasn’t married before Olivier, but she is known for having a few high-profile relationships.
She was in a relationship with David Katzenberg, the son of DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, and also dated artist Nate Lowman, plus photographer Maxwell Snow.
Mary-Kate was a close friend of deceased actor Heath Ledger, and many have suspected that she had something to do with Ledger’s death, without any evidence – he died from a drug overdose in 2008.
Regarding her health issues, Mary-Kate was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in 2004, while in 2007 she was in hospital recovering from a kidney infection.
According to sources, Mary-Kate Olsen’s net worth is estimated at a minimum of $220 million, as of early 2020.
