Who is Bob Stoops?

American Football coach Robert Anthony ‘Bob’ Stoops was born in Youngstown, Ohio USA, on 9 September 1960, making Virgo his zodiac sign. He’s probably known best for the time which he spent coaching the Sooners of the University of Oklahoma; Bob’s record with the Sooners was 190-48, and they won the 2001 Orange Bowl under his guidance.

Education and early life

Bob was raised in Youngstown alongside his five siblings, by their mother Evelyn ‘Dee Dee’ Stoops and father Ron Sr; not a lot has been shared about his family, because Bob respects their privacy, but it’s known that his father was also into sports, and was the Football defensive co-ordinator at Cardinal Mooney High School.

Bob became interested in football thanks to his father, who coached him while he was attending the above mentioned Cardinal Mooney; Ron also coached his other sons Mark, Mike and Ron Jr. at the school – both Mark and Mike are today coaches and former players. Ron Sr. died in 1988, when he began experiencing chest pains at a football game against his son Ron Jr’s team; he passed way in an ambulance en route to the hospital.

Bob matriculated in 1979, and then enrolled at the University of Iowa, at which he played defensive back, and was a starter for all four years; he was named the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1982; he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in marketing in the following year.

Bob’s career

Bob launched his career straight out of college, as he became a volunteer coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes under the tutelage of the late American college Football coach and player John Hayden Fry.

In 1988, he became the assistant football coach at Kent State University under head coach Dick Crum, and the following year saw him join the coaching staff at Kansas State University. In 1991, Bob became the co-defensive coordinator of the Kansas State Wildcats, and four years later their assistant head coach. During his final four years with the Wildcats, the team won 35 of their 47 games, and made three Bowl appearances.

He became the defensive co-ordinator of the University of Florida’s Gators in 1996, and helped them win the 1997 Sugar Bowl; it was then mentioned that Bob might become their new head coach, but he instead chose to become the head coach of the University of Oklahoma’s Sooners in 1999.

He won his first seven games with the Sooners, and led them to the 1999 Super Bowl, their first Super Bowl appearance in six years. Bob went on to coach the Sooners for 18 years, marking his 157th victory with them on 16 November 2013, meaning that he and former Sooners’ head coach Barry Switzer were tied in the team’s victories. Starting in 2005 and ending in 2011, the Sooners won all the 39 games that they played at home – their streak ended when they lost to Texas Tech 41-28 on 22 October 2011.

Bob revealed on 7 June 2017 that he was retiring from college coaching, and was replaced by Lincoln Riley; on 7 February 2019 he announced that he was coming out of retirement, and was named head coach of the Dallas Renegades of the professional American Football minor league XFL. The league went bankrupt in April 2020, mostly because of the outbreak of the coronavirus, and Bob thus lost his job.

Bob was chosen as interim head coach for the Sooners’ Alamo Bowl game on 28 November 2021, after Lincoln Riley accepted the offer to become the head coach of the University of Southern California’s Trojans; the Sooners defeated the Oregon Ducks 47-32.

Bob then once again retired from coaching, and has since been staying away from the media’s attention.

Love life and marriage

Bob avoids speaking about his love life in public, but it’s still widely known that he’s been married for more than 30 years now.

He and non-celebrity American Carol Stoops married in a private ceremony in 1988, with only their closest friends and family members in attendance; Carol’s today working at the marketing company Mary Kay Inc. as their national sales director. Who is Paul Westhead?

American retired basketball coach Paul William Westhead was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, on 21 February 1939, making Pisces his zodiac sign. He’s probably still known best for having coached three National Basketball Association (NBA) and several Women’s NBA (WNBA) teams, while he’s also coached in the Japan Basketball League (JBL), American Basketball Association (ABA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Education and early life

Paul was raised in Philadelphia by his parents, about whom he hasn’t shared many details because he’s respective of their privacy; it’s believed that both his mother and father have passed away, but this is yet to be confirmed. Paul hasn’t spoken about having brothers and sisters, and most of his fans believe that he’s an only child.

He studied at West Catholic Preparatory High School, and was mostly into playing basketball during his four years there; he suffered a number of injuries as a teenager, and they eventually made it impossible for him to pursue a career as a professional basketball player, thus choosing to become a coach.

Career beginnings

In 1967, Paul began coaching at Cheltenham High School in Philadelphia, and his team the Panthers lost in the Pennsylvania State Championship; one of Paul’s players Craig Littlepage later became the athletic director at the University of Virginia.

In 1970, Paul began coaching the basketball team of La Salle University, where he also taught English language; he remained coaching the Explorers until 1979, and during that time they competed in two NCAA and one National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

Peak of career

Paul’s first coaching job in the NBA was with the Los Angeles Lakers; he had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson on the team, and in Paul’s first year with the Lakers, they won the 1980 NBA Finals by defeating Philadelphia. Still, Paul was fired in 1982, and replaced by Pat Riley.

He next coached the Chicago Bulls in 1982 and ‘83, then returned to coaching college basketball teams in 1985, when invited to coach the Loyola Marymount Lions, where he stayed for five years.

From 1989 through 1991, he coached the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, but was then fired because his two-year record was 44-120. From 1993 through 1997, he coached at the George Mason University, and was fired because of his 38-70 record. From 1997 through 1999, he was the Golden State Warriors assistant coach under P. J. Carlesimo.

Later career

In 2000 and 2001, Paul coached the Los Angeles Stars of the ABA, and from 2001 through 2003 the Panasonic Super Kangaroos of the JBL. The year 2003 saw him coach the Long Beach Jam of ABA, and from 2003 to 2005, Paul was Orlando Magic’s (NBA) assistant coach under Johnny Davis.

He began coaching the Phoenix Mercury of WNBA in 2005, and led them to win the 2007 WNBA Championship, becoming the only coach to win both an NBA and WNBA Championship.

Paul then joined the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics as their assistant coach under P. J. Carlesimo, but after P. J. was fired, Paul was let go as well.

University of Oregon’s athletic director Pat Kilkenny revealed on 26 March 2009 that Paul had become the new head coach of the university’s women’s basketball team the Ducks (NCAA). He was the team’s sixth head coach – it was revealed on 4 March 2014 that his contract was expiring, and wouldn’t be renewed, mostly because he had a record of 65-90 with the Ducks, and in conference play 27-64 in five seasons. It was also revealed that his five-year contract was worth over $3 million, meaning that he was making close to $600,000 a year.

Paul retired after he was let go by the Ducks, and has since been leading a peaceful life at his home in Philadelphia.

Paul has been keeping the details of his love life hidden since the launch of his career, but some things about it are still known. He then spent some time playing for the Tampa Bay Bandits, Jacksonville Bulls and Memphis Showboats of the US Football League, before retiring from professional football in 1984.

Career as a wrestler

Lex launched his wrestling career in 1985, when he signed with Championship Wrestling Florida (CWF), and chose ‘Lex Luger’ as his ring name, after the supervillain Alexander Joseph ‘Lex’ Luthor.

Lex won his first match on 31 October 1985, defeating Cocoa Samoa, and the following month saw him beat Wahoo McDaniel to become the Southern Heavyweight Champion. He faced the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair on 1 September 1986, and the match ended in a draw.

Lex signed with JCP in 1987, and became a member of the stable The Four Horsemen; he became the NWA US Heavyweight Champion on 11 July 1987 by defeating Nikita Koloff, but lost it to Dusty Rhodes in November of the same year. Lex quit The Four Horsemen on 2 December, and then teamed up with Barry Windham in their tag team The Twin Towers; the duo won the NWA World Tag Team Championship on 27 March 1988, however, Barry then joined The Four Horsemen and turned against Lex. JCP was sold in November 1988, and renamed to WCW.

Lex became the NWA US Heavyweight Champion by defeating Barry Windham in 1989, and became the WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 1991.

He left WCW and signed a contract with World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF) in 1992, but the organization was soon closed; Lex then signed with WWF in 1993, and chose ‘The Narcissist’ as his persona. His first WWF match was a win against Larry Lunden on 25 January 1993, and he then feuded with Mr. Perfect, defeating him at WrestleMania IX.

He feuded with Ludvig Borga in the second half of 1993, and then with Tatanka in 1994. Lex and Davey Boy Smith formed their tag team The Allied Powers in January 1995, but lost to Owen Hart and Yokozuna in a WWF Tag Team Championship match.

Lex returned to WCW in August 1995, and together with Sting won the World Tag Team Championship on 22 January 1996; he became the WCW World Television Champion on 17 February 1996, but lost the title a day later. He remained with WCW until 2001, when he signed with WWA, while the year 2003 saw him sign with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

He then steadily ‘began retiring’; Lex quit Total Nonstop in 2004, returning to it briefly in both 2006 and 2012. Since 2011, he’s been working for WWE behind the scenes on their Wellness Policy.
