Who is Steve Harvey?
Broderick Stephen Harvey was born in Welch, West Virginia USA on 17 January 1957 – his zodiac sign is Capricorn and he holds American nationality.
He is a TV host, businessman and a comedian, perhaps best known for hosting the family game show “Family Feud”.
Steve was raised in Welch by his father Jesse Harvey who was a coalminer and his mother Eloise Vera who was a housewife. The family moved to Cleveland in Ohio when Steve was nine years old and the street he lived in is today called Steve Harvey Way. Steve attended Glenville High School and upon matriculation in 1974, he enrolled at Ken State University before switching to West Virginia University before he graduated in 1978 – while there, he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
He started off by working odd jobs such as selling insurance, delivering mail and fixing cars, and he was also a boxer for around one year. On 8 October 1985, he did stand-up comedy for the first time performing at Cleveland’s Hilarities Comedy Club and after deciding to focus solely on comedy which wasn’t earning him enough money, he spent three years living in his Ford car. After performing at the competition Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search on 16 April 1990 and making it to the finals, he was offered to host the show “Showtime at the Apollo”. In 1996, he got his own TV show “The Steve Harvey Show” which aired until 2002.
In 2000, he started hosting “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” which has been airing to this day. He is also a bit of an actor as he has appeared in the film “The Fighting Temptations” in 2003 as well as in the movies “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”, “You Got Served” and “Johnson Family Vacation” – his most notable role was in the sports comedy family movie “Racing Stripes” in which he voiced one of the lead characters. He is also a bit of a writer as he published his book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” in 2009 and it is about how men see women and dating.
It was in September 2010 that Steve started hosting the popular show “Family Feud” and around the same time, he began hosting “Celebrity Family Feud”.
After 27 years of doing stand-up comedy, Steve performed for the last time at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand on 2 August 2012. In 2013, he was the first person to become nominated for two host awards – an Outstanding Game Show Host Award and an Outstanding Talk Show Host. Steve has also gotten his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2015, he was invited to host the Miss Universe pageant held in Las Vegas, however, he made a mistake when he pronounced the wrong girl as the winner – he hosted the pageant again next year in the Philippines mostly because he wanted to apologize once again for the mistake he made in 2015 while he also went on to host the three next pageants.
In 2017, Steve united all of his businesses in one company called Steve Harvey Global.
Steve has had his ups and downs in the entertainment industry and there has been some controversy surrounding him. He has called atheists ‘idiots’ on 30 May 2009 and stated women shouldn’t date them because they are without ‘moral barometer’, and he has also made racial comments about Asian men but later publicly apologized. However, it is widely known that Harvey is a philanthropist and has helped numerous children and teenagers attend schools and purchase clothes and books.
