Valerie Chaney is a very private person, who gained public interest by being married to American comedian-writer-producer and podcaster Pete Holmes.
Early Life and Family
There is no information about her early life, and little is known about her family except for her Instagram posts on which she’s shared some photos of her parents, Bill and Beth Chaney, along with a grandfather whom she fondly calls Paw-Paw. She also has a brother named Derek Chaney whom she considers her best friend, and has a good relationship with her sister-in-law named Beth Ansolabehere.
She is also a doting and loving aunt, based on her IG posts dedicated to her nephew, Wyatt, and niece, Annie June.
She earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of California, Davis. There is no information on her primary and secondary education as well as where she earned her Bachelor’s degree; she’s made no reference to them on her social media app posts.
Not long after she earned her Master’s degree, she was accepted as a middle school teacher in Northern California. While there, she discovered how young girls struggled with having low self-esteem, and this played a major influence in her advocacy of helping women with the same problem to overcome it.
Her not-so great personal experience growing up along with what she observed among her students pushed her to be connected with the REALgirl Empowerment Program. It helps young girls from ages nine to 16 with their self-esteem issues, along with informing them of their options so they can fully explore their own potential as individuals.
She is currently a REALgirl® Instructor in the Los Angeles area, and she coaches young girls as they deal with body-shaming and identity confusion, as well as inspiring them to be confident so they can stand on their own. She believes that this would encourage more women to speak out, and be future leaders in society.

In the last decade, I’ve been so many different people. I used to be ashamed of that and afraid it meant I was inauthentic or something. But now I see that it was my clumsy way of getting to know myself. I’m looking back at all of it now with such a grounded connection to my true self, a deep respect for my body and just a general fondness for the story of Valerie. I’m so grateful for all the things it took to get here and for all the people who shared their love along the way. ❤️
In 2019, she started offering Dance and Meditation classes called “Wild and Free” at Studio A Dance in the Hyperion Arts Complex in L.A.
She has been married to Pete Holmes since 28 October 2017, in California after dating for three years. They have a daughter named Lila Jane, who was born in September of 2018. She and Pete loved to travel together, but when Lila came, they both enjoyed staying at home together to take care of her.

He was married at the age of 22 when he was just starting his career in stand-up comedy, and was part of “The Sweaty-Toothed Madmen,” a local comedy troupe. He also created a comedy-version character of the superhero, Batman, in a web series called “Badman” produced by CollegeHumor. From October 2013 up to June 2014, “The Pete Holmes Show” was aired on TBS.
He wrote, produced, and hosted the show in which comedy sketches and monologues were presented for half an hour every Monday to Thursday night.
He achieved further success with “Crashing,” a TV series loosely-based on his own life experiences, that started airing over at HBO in 2015, and lasted until March 2019, running for three seasons directed by Judd Apatow. Pete has a podcast series, “You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes,” and it’s available in different online platforms including Apple Podcasts.
