Dan was raised as a single child in Yorkshire by his father who was a janitor, and his mother who was teaching at a local elementary school.

He became interested in acting at a very early age, and was mostly fascinated by horror movies some of which are “An American Werewolf” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” among others – apparently they motivated him to become a movie director. He attended a local high school, where he was physically active playing soccer and basketball, while he also practiced his acting skills at the school’s drama club. Upon matriculation, he found a job at the Laser Quest in Yorkshire which is a company that organizes indoor lasertag games.
Career as a director
Dan soon moved to London to focus on a career as a film director and writer, starting by working for the director Guy Ritchie as his assistant, and then after being invited by the famous actor Jason Flemyng, he became a production assistant for Vinnie Jones. He went on to work on the comedy crime film “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” in 1998, which starred Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher and Nick Moran, and follows four friends in London who are trying to find weed, money, and two shotguns.
He went on to work on another comedy crime movie, “Snatch” in 2000, and then served as the production assistant on “Morvern Caller” in 2002.
He wrote the film “Dancestar USA 2004” in 2004, and then helped the popular singer and actress Madonna with several of her projects, including the documentary film “I’m Going to Tell You a Secret” in 2005 as the second unit director. Later that year he was also involved with two of her other movies – “Madonna: Sticky & Sweet Tour” and “Filth and Wisdom”.
Dan wrote and directed his own short movie “The Devil’s Wedding” in 2009, casting Lena Headey as the lead character, and the movie won the Cleveland International Film Festival Award for the Best International Short Film in 2010.
One of his latest works has been the comedy film “Walk Like the Panther” in 2018, which starred Stephen Graham, Jason Flemyng and Julian Sands, and which follows a group of old people and former wrestlers who have to wrestle again to save their favorite pub from being closed. Dan has recently signed a contract with The Craft Agency, and is working on his next movie about three serial killers.

They were best friends for many years, and only started dating three years after Lena divorced her first husband, Peter Loughran, with whom she has a son Wylie, born in 2010. Lena suffered from depression after giving birth, which led to her and Peter’s divorce in 2011 (wasn’t finalized until 2013), and she then dated Jerome Flynn for several months. She began dating Dan in 2014, and gave birth to their daughter Teddy on 10 July 2015.
