Early Life, Childhood and Education

Taylor Jacks Kinney was born under the zodiac sign of Cancer on the 15^th July 1981, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as one of four sons in the family of dental hygienist Pamela Heisler and banker Daniel Kinney. Apart from being of American nationality and white ethnicity, he is also of some German, Swiss and French ancestry through his mother, as well as of English descent through his father’s side.

After his parents separated, he was raised alongside his brothers, Ryan, Trent and Adam, in Neffsville, Pennsylvania, by their single mother, spending his childhood playing around in the woods, riding dirt bikes and climbing rocks.

Taylor attended Lancaster Mennonite High School, where he was heavily involved within the school’s volleyball team that later brought him the accolade of Section Two Volleyball Player of the Year in Pennsylvania. Upon completing his secondary education, in 2000 Kinney enrolled at West Virginia University where he studied Business Management, but he dropped out to pursue his acting career.

Acting Career

Taylor’s acting career didn’t really begin until 2006, when he was cast for the recurring role of Luke Gianni in the TV romantic drama series “Fashion Show”. His big screen debut came in the following year, when he appeared in the critically booed sport movie “White Air”, which was followed by an appearance in the not-very-successful horror film entitled “Furnace”. To greater prominence Kinney came in 2009, when he landed the recurring role of Glenn Morrison in the television drama series “Trauma” continuing ’til 2010.

Later that year he appeared in the critically acclaimed drama film “Scorpio Men of Prozac”, which was followed by one of his most memorable on-screen appearances so far – the recurring role of Mason Lockwood in The CW TV’s supernatural drama series “The Vampire Diaries”.

The year of 2012 was quite busy for Kinney – he appeared as Dave in eight episodes of the first season of the TV comedy series “Dating Rules from My Future Self”, which was followed by a streak of guest appearances in television series such as “Shameless”, “Castle” and “Breakout Kings”, before being cast for the role of Jared in the thriller movie “Zero Dark Thirty”.

The big breakthrough in Taylor‘s career occurred later that year, when he was cast to portray one of the leading characters in the NBC TV’s action drama series “Chicago Fire” – since then he’s starred in the role of Lieutenant Kelly Severide, and has so far appeared in almost 180 episodes through the show’s eight seasons. Additionally, he has been reprising this role in the series’ spin-off shows “Chicago Med” and “Chicago P.D.”. All these ventures have earned him nominations for two People’s Choice Awards, in 2015 and 2017.

In 2014, he appeared in the romantic comedy movie “The Other Woman”, while in 2015 he starred opposite Bill Murray in the music comedy war movie “Rock the Kasbah”.
