Early life and education
Tyisha was raised an only child in the US by her father who was a taxi driver, and her mother who worked at a café as a waitress before switching to a job at a local supermarket. The family led a rather modest life, as they had just enough money to cover their bills and put food on the table.
Tyisha became interested in acting while attending high school, and began practicing her skills at the school’s drama club, while she also often attended theatre plays, and occasionally talked to the actors and actresses, asking them for advice. Kel was raised on the South Side area of Chicago alongside his two sisters, Kyra and Kenyatta, by their parents who were both part of the entertainment industry. Kel studied at Chicago Vocational High School while simultaneously practicing acting at the ETA Creative Arts Foundation – after matriculation in 1995, he decided to focus on his acting career rather than to honor his parent’s wish and enroll at a college.
