From performing as the lead on Broadway to multiple series regular roles, her acting career is impressive in itself. She only got into directing a few years ago and has already screened her pilot presentation at SXWS, been an AFI DWW fellow, directed episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and the InBetween, AND for the past year she has been the Co-Executive Producer on CBS’ FBI. She’s the prime example of ‘Making s!*t happen.’ She also directed @susanneandtheman and I’m so grateful to have gotten to work so closely with her. Love you Milena! —Also Susanne and The Man releases online in 6 DAYS!!!!!
Both her parents are professors in music, and were the inspiration behind Milena’s interest in music.
Her father, who died in 1993, taught at the University of Oklahoma, and her mother is still teaching vocals at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Her father was of Serbian descent, and her mother a mix of Scottish and English bloodlines. Milena’s aunt, Melica Govich, is also an actress, who has appeared on television and in Broadway plays.
Milena matriculated from Norman High School in her hometown.
Despite suffering the loss of her father, Milena was still able to achieve high enough grades to be the valedictorian for her class of 1994. She went on to study at the University of Central Oklahoma where her mother was teaching, and graduated with a double major in pre-med and vocal performance, and also attained minors in dance and violin. She once again achieved spectacular grades, and was appointed as valedictorian of her varsity graduation ceremony.
Milena then moved to New York City to pursue her aspirations of becoming an actress, and was able to land a role in the Broadway musical “Cabaret” at Studio 54.
She would originally play the role of Lulu, but was the later replacement for the prime role of Sally Bowles.
She continued her career on Broadway, landing roles in musicals which included the revival of “The Boys From Syracuse”, the Beach Boys musical “Good Vibrations”, and was also given the title role in “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. She also had the leading role in “Sweet Charity” at The Lyric Theatre.

She then returned to play the role of ‘Nina Cassady’ in the 17th season of “Law and Order” from 2006 to 2007. It was not, however, her first recurring role, as concurrently in 2005 she landed the role of Candy in “Rescue Me”, which she retained for 16 episodes until 2009, and form 2006 Milena also gained the recurring role of Jessica Rossi on the set of “Conviction”.
Ever in demand, Milena continued her success in films too, starring in the titles that included “East Side Story” and “Sordid Things”. In 2011 she was in the film “A Novel Romance”, and in 2015 she had roles in both the films “# Lucky Number” and “Pass The Light”.
While her movie credits are few, Milena has had much greater success in television, appearing in shows such as “Body of Proof”, “Psych” and “The Mentalist”. In 2014 and 2015 she had the recurring role of Lori Stevens in “Finding Carter”.
Her latest work now mostly includes directorial positions, such as for episodes in the television series’ “Chicago Med”, “Chicago Fire”, “The In Between” and “FBI”.
Her most recent acting performances have been in the 2018 feature “Closure”, and the 2020 film “Be The Light”.
As a singer, her career includes the highlight of singing the American national anthem at the New Jersey Devils’ opener on 10 October 2008 at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey. Milena also went on tour as a guest performer with Fei Xiang, a Chinese pop star,.
