Who is Talia Shire?

An actress with over 70 acting credits to her name, Talia Shire is still probably known best for her roles as Connie in “The Godfather” and its sequels, as well as Adrian in “Rocky”. She won numerous awards and accolades playing the mentioned roles, including the most prestigious Academy Award nomination.

Early life, family, and education

Born Talia Rose Coppola under the zodiac sign of Taurus on 25 April 1946, she recently celebrated her 77th birthday. Talia is a native of Lake Success, New York State USA, holds American nationality, and comes from a family of Italian descent. She’s the daughter of Carmine and Italia Coppola, and her brothers are the famous director Francis Ford Coppola, and August Coppola, an academic.

As a young girl Talia was very shy, so upon matriculating from high school in 1964, her parents sent her to Yale Drama School to overcome her shyness. In 1966, she moved to Hollywood, California to launch her acting career.

Talia made her acting debut playing the support role as June in the 1968 movie “The Wild Racers”. Two years later, she was cast to play Nurse Cora in “The Dunwich Horror”, and later in 1970, Talia made her first television appearance as Lydia in an episode of the TV series “My World and Welcome to It”.

In the following year, Talia played a supporting role as Last Party Guest in the movie “The Christian Licorice Store” before she was seen playing one of her most notable roles, as Connie in “The Godfather” in 1972.

Talia starred opposite Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Can in this legendary movie, written and directed by her brother, Francis Ford Coppola. Her role as Connie Corleone Rizzi in the first part of “The Godfather” did not go unnoticed, however, and when she reprised her role in the 1974 sequel “The Godfather Part II”, she was nominated for the Oscar – Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Two years later, Talia was cast to play Adrian in the sports drama “Rocky”, written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. This was Talia’s first main role, and she was nominated for the Oscar- Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well for the Golden Globe Award- Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama.

She reprised her role in “Rocky II” (1979), “Rocky III” (1982), “Rocky IV” (1985), and “Rocky V” in 1990, then later in 1990, she was again seen as Connie Corleone in “The Godfather Part III”.

These two roles have marked her career, however, Talia had numerous roles in the late ’90s and early 2000s, which also deserved the attention of the critics and the audience.

Worth mentioning are Talia’s roles in “Bed & Breakfast” (1991), “Deadfall” (1993), “The Landlady” (1998), and “Lured Innocence” (2000). Talia has been married twice. Her first husband was David Shire, a writer, and composer, with whom she has a son named Matthew Shire, also a writer. Talia and David married on 29 May 1970, and divorced on 8 May 1980.

On 23 August 1980, Talia married Jack Schwartzman, an actor and producer. They had four children together, Jason, John, Robert and Stephanie, and were in marriage until his death on 15 June 1994 from pancreatic cancer.

Talia was in a relationship with Roger Corman, a film producer, however, this love story didn’t last long.

Who is Cary Elwes?

British actor and screenwriter Ivan Simon Cary Elwes was born in Westminster, London, England, on 26 October 1962, making Scorpio his zodiac sign. He’s had roles in close to 140 TV series and movies, but is probably still known best for playing the lead character Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the 2004 horror mystery thriller movie “Saw”, which James Wan wrote and directed, and which also starred Danny Glover and Leigh Whannell. It follows two people who’ve been kidnapped by a cruel killer, and the film won eight of its 18 award nominations.

 

Education and early life

Cary was raised alongside his two older brothers Cassian and Damian, and younger sister Milica Kastner in Westminster, by their mother Tessa Kennedy who’s a British interior designer, and their father Bede Evelyn Dominick Elwes, the late British portrait painter. Cary was raised a Catholic, and some of his deceased relatives were clerics, including the Bishop of Northampton Dudle Charles Cary-Elwes.

He was four when Tessa and Bede divorced, and 13 when Bede committed suicide. Cary studied at Harrow School and launched his acting career during his time there, playing Disco Dancer in the 1979 musical movie “Yesterday’s Hero”.

American former actor Angus Turner Jones was born in Austin, Texas USA, on 8 October 1993, making Libra his zodiac sign. He appeared in 16 movies and TV series prior to retiring from acting in 2016, and Angus is perhaps known best for playing Jake Harper, one of the main characters in the romantic comedy series “Two and a Half Men”, created by Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn, and which also starred Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer. Benjamin’s since appeared in only three TV series: he played Javier Delgado in six episodes of the romantic comedy “Modern Family” (2010-2020), Parco Delgado in all the four episodes of the 2022 action adventure mini-series “DMZ” and Cliff Legrand in five episodes of the 2023 crime mystery “Poker Face”.

Other credits

Benjamin received special thanks for the 2004 episode “Goodnight, Seattle: Part 2” of the comedy “Frasier”.

He has five producing credits, which include the 2009 drama movie “La Mission”, the 2009 episode “Hello America” of the drama series “The Cleaner” and the 2017 biographical historical documentary movie “Dolores”.

Some of his wins include a 2001 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture, for his and his colleagues’ performance in “Traffic”, five ALMA Awards between 1998 and 2009, for his performance in series such as “Law & Order”, “Exiled” and “The Cleaner”, and two Behind the Voice Actors Awards in 2018, for his and his colleagues’ performance in “Coco”.

Love life and relationships

Benjamin avoids speaking about his love life in public, but has still openly identified two women whom he’s been with.

He and famous American actress Julia Fiona Roberts began dating in 1998, but for unknown reasons separated in 2001.

Benjamin began dating American former actress and model Miriam Talisa Soto in 2002; she’s probably still known best for playing Bond girl Lupe Lamora in the 1989 spy action movie “Licence to Kill”. The two exchanged vows on 13 April 2002, after having dated for only three months, and she gave birth to their daughter Sophia Rosalinda Bratt on 6 December that year, while their son Mateo Bravery Bratt followed on 3 October 2005.

Their decision was obviously a good one, as Benjamin’s still married to Miriam Talisa Soto as of April 2023, and they have two children together.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Benjamin’s brother Peter Bratt wrote and directed the 1996 movie “Follow Me Home” and the 2009 film “La Mission”, in both of which Benjamin starred.

He’s been a philanthropist since the launch of his acting career, and is today active with the American Indian Movement, while he supports the American Indian College Fund. Benjamin narrated the 2009 documentary mini-series about Native Americans “We Shall Remain”, and is today a board member of both the Native American Health Center and the Friendship House Association of American Indians.

He enjoys being active on Instagram, and has posted nearly 500 pictures and videos, while more than 260,000 people are following him on the social media network today.

Benjamin’s favorite actor is Orlando Bloom, while some of his favorite movies include “Kingdom of Heaven”, “Tour de Pharmacy” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”.
