She’s been active in the entertainment industry since 2005, and aside from television projects, she’s also had notable roles in both theatre as well as film.

Early Life and Education

Necar is of Iranian ancestry, and though born in West Germany and spent early years there, the family later moved to the US looking for better opportunities, settling in San Francisco where she was educated. She didn’t initially envision a career as an actress, and after matriculating from high school, she enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The university is a part of the large 10-campus system of the University of California. Santa Barbara, in particular, has been considered one of the Public Ivies, public universities with educational systems on par with the prestigious Ivy League. She completed a degree in Literature during which she discovered s love for acting. Wanting to pursue it as a career, she furthered her studies by moving to Paris briefly, to take lessons at the Sorbonne University. Following her return to the US, she followed up her intent by taking up auditions, hoping for a big break.

Career Beginnings and Rise to Prominence

Zadegan started her career in the mid-2000s, and mainly appeared in support roles in various popular television programs, including “How I Met Your Mother”, “NCIS”, “Lost”, “Nip/Tuck”, and “CSI: Miami”. As she accrued experience and an increasingly noticeable portfolio, she eventually landed her first regular role.

In 2010, she was cast in the series “24” as Dalia Hassan, with her character becoming a major part of the eighth season’s storyline.

The show stars Kiefer Sutherland who plays the counter-terrorism expert and agent Jack Bauer. One of the things that set “24” apart was its focus on the actual 24 hours of the day, with each episode focusing on an hour. The story line often deals with assassination attempts, corruption, cybercrime, weapons of mass destruction, and bioterrorism. For most of its run, the show received a lot of praise and won numerous awards including a Primetime Emmy.

Continued Acting Work

Following that role, she made her feature film debut in “Unthinkable”, after only doing short films in the early part of her career.

“Unthinkable” was released straight to video though it featured prominent actors such as Michael Sheen, Carrie-Anne Moss and Samuel L. Jackson. The film tells the story of a man threatening to detonate nuclear bombs in several parts of the US, and the government resorting to torture to get him to talk. Its approach to the themes proved highly controversial, as the subject was already taboo to begin with. During the same year, she also worked on the film “Elena Undone” in which she starred alongside Traci Dinwiddie. The film focuses on a romantic relationship between two women, and is loosely based on the relationship between filmmakers Marina Rice Bader and Nicole Conn.

She was then cast in a recurring role of Isabel in the series “The Event”. The show aired on NBC and tells the story of aliens that crashed in Alaska, and with government knowledge remained detained there for over six decades with the general populace slowly realizing their existence. The show only ran for a season before it was canceled. She then had a starring role in the show “Emily Owens, MD”, but which was another short-lived project, aired on the CW.

Recent Projects and NCIS: New Orleans

In 2014, Zadegan had  another notable role as the character Delia, in the series “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”.

The show aired on Bravo and follows the story of an author of self-help books who has to deal with an impending divorce as well as its aftermath. It ran for five seasons and received favorable reviews during its run. While with that show, she also had a recurring role in “Extant”, which starred Halle Berry, and produced by Steven Spielberg tells the story of an astronaut who returns home pregnant after a journey through space.

After working on several programs as a guest, she then became a main cast member of “NCIS: New Orleans” in 2018, in which she portrays Special Agent Hannah Khoury.

The police procedural series has been running since 2014 and is a spin-off of “NCIS”, following a team of Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) agents who are based in New Orleans, often solving cases related to the US Marines or the US Navy. She was initially introduced to the show as the team’s direct supervisor, though later stepped down when Dwayne Cassius Pride returned to the team.

Personal Life

Necar is single and she has not talked about any of her relationships or past romances.

She prefers to keep information away from the public, and doesn’t have any public social media accounts. She resides in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, in a home that was previously owned by actress Michelle Monaghan. She purchased the home as she loves the view of downtown Los Angeles, and also provides a view of the nearby ocean.
