American actress, Gina Tognoni was born on 28 November 1973 in St. Louis, Missouri USA. She is best known for her role in “The Young and the Restless.” She was born to Edward Anthony Tognoni and Sharon Tognoni, and she has a sister, Maggie Tognoni.

She is close to her family, which can be seen by her social media posts. On Father’s Day in June 2017, she wished her father via an Instagram post of a photo of her father. For the caption, she wrote an ode to him and complimented him on being an incredible guy and fantastic father.

She is especially close with her sister and often posts pictures of her to her Instagram feed. She briefly attended Emerson College before dropping out to focus on and pursue her acting career.

Career

In 1995, she made her debut appearance in a soap opera in ABC’s “One Life to Live,” as Kelly Cramer. After six years on the show, in April 2001, she announced that she would not be renewing her contract with the soap opera. She returned to daytime television in July 2004 in CBS’s “Guiding Light” as Dinah Marler.

Her list of guest roles include appearing in “Fastlane” as Gabriella in 2003, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” as Officer Kristen Vaill in 2005 and “The Sopranos” as Catherine Lipman in 2006. From 2009 to 2010, she appeared in the web series, “Venice: The Series,” as Sami Nelson. In 2009, after CBS’s “Guiding Light” was cancelled, she returned to “One Life to Live” as Kelly Cramer and remained until it was cancelled in 2011. On 22 May 2014, she was announced to replace Michelle Stafford on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless” as Phyllis Summers.

Her first appearance on the show was on 11 August 2014. Fans and critics felt that she had big shoes to fill, but she received praise for her performance. In 2019, Daytime Confidential announced Michelle Stafford’s decision to leave “General Hospital” and return to “The Young and the Restless” as Phyllis Summers. This meant that Gina would be removed from the show.

Michelle portrayed Phyllis for nearly 20 years, from when she joined the show in 1994, to when she left in 2013. In her 20 years, she received 10 Daytime Emmy nominations and won Best Supporting Actress in 1997 and Best Actress in 2004.

On 30 March 2019, Gina took to Instagram to speak about her exit from the soap opera, ‘I am beyond grateful for the creative experience that ‘The Young and the Restless’ has given to me as well as the amazing relationships I made with the cast, crew/staff, producers, and writers. I love my Genoa City family.’ Her last appearance on the show aired on 7 June 2019.

In 2002, she starred in “Pride & Loyalty” as Stephanie and in 2011, as Nurse Jackson in “In the Family.” She has appeared in several television films including, “This Time Around” as Cara Cabot in 2003, “Phenomenon II” also in 2003 and the short film, “Art” as Barbara in 2005.

Aside from her wins, she has been nominated for an Online Film & Television Association, two Daytime Emmy Awards and four Soap Opera Digest Awards.

In 2015 at the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards, she was nominated for her role as Phyllis Summers for Outstanding Lead Actress. In 2017 at the 44th Daytime Emmy Awards, she was nominated once again for Outstanding Lead Actress and won.

In the past, she has dated Tom Pelphrey and Mark Derwin. On 21 November 2007, she got engaged to Insurance professional, Joseph Chiarello. They were introduced by Gina’s former co-star, Beth Ehlers and have been married since 16 May 2009. Joseph is the President of a business insurance program for the firearms industry Joseph Chiarello & Co. Inc.
