Vanessa was raised alongside her three siblings – Pete Samuel ‘Sam’ Ortiz Jr., Tina, and Sherry, in Indio by their father Pete Ortiz who was a millionaire, and their mother Patricia Marcil who was an herbalist. Pete was Mexican, who became a contractor at a very early age, earning his first million by the time he turned 30; he died on 14 September 2017. Patricia is of French and Italian descent.

Vanessa grew up being interested in acting, as she watched numerous shows and movies on TV and performed for the first time at the age of eight while she was later a member of the Indio High School’s drama club while studying there. Vanessa was also physically active playing soccer and volleyball, and learned to play the guitar. Upon matriculation, she enrolled at the College of the Desert located in Palm Desert, California, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in law in 1990.

Vanessa made her debut film appearance in the action thriller film “The Rock” in 1996, which starred Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris in the story which follows a chemist and a former criminal working together to stop a group of criminals who are planning to release deadly gas in San Francisco.
In 1997, she portrayed Danielle in the fantasy romantic short film “976-WISH” which starred Dan Brooks and Courtney Gebhart, and follows a college freshman who becomes friends with a magical Genie. In 1999, she was invited to portray Erin in the romantic comedy film “Nice Guys Sleep Alone”, which starred Michael Green and Sean O’Bryan, and talks about a guy who is dumped by his girlfriends because he is too sweet. She met Brian Austin Green in 1997 while they were shooting together for the series “Beverly Hills, 90210”, and they dated for five years before Vanessa gave birth to their son Kassius in 2002. They stayed together for one more year before splitting, and Vanessa continued raising their son on her own.
She met Carmine Giovinazzo, an American actor, writer, and musician, in 2008 and they married on 11 July 2010 at a private ceremony attended only by the two’s closest friends and family. Vanessa announced that she was pregnant in June 2011, but suffered a miscarriage shortly after her second miscarriage that year.
Vanessa and Marci divorced in March 2013, citing irreconcilable differences. Vanessa became engaged to a man whom she refers to as ‘MC’, and who is believed to be a deputy sheriff, and announced in November 2017 that she was pregnant again but suffered a miscarriage in January 2018, actually her seventh.
Hobbies and other interests
Vanessa was apparently more intelligent than her peers while attending elementary school, and was given a chance to skip second grade but her parents didn’t allow it. She is a fan of tattoos and had one on her lower back which represented peace and love, but decided to remove it in 2018. Vanessa was interested in modelling during her teenage years, and posed for numerous magazines after becoming a famous actress, including an invitation to appear in “Playboy” but which she declined.
She is a huge lover of animals and has had several pets, while she is currently taking care of her two dogs Whiskey and Cowboy. She enjoys watching movies in her spare time, with some of her favorite actors and actresses being Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Natalie Portman, while some of her favorite movies are the trilogy “The Godfather”, “An Officer and a Gentleman”, and “Terms of Endearment”. She became interested in designing clothes, and has created her own line Kass made for children. After she was left raising her son on her own, she founded Patricia House in Los Angeles, which helps women who are struggling to raise their kids.
