Early life and education
Marina grew up in New York City where she was raised an only child by her father who is a businessman and her mother who is a lawyer, but actually she spent most of her free time with a babysitter, as her parents were always busy. She started acting while at elementary school after being encouraged by her drama teacher, appearing in her first school play at the age of eight, and from there featured in all plays but one, which she couldn’t attend due to having the ‘flu.
She continued acting at high school, where she also played soccer and lacrosse. Upon matriculation, she enrolled at Northwestern University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre in 2005.
Career as an actress
She launched her career as a theatre actress in 2005 when she appeared in “Just in Time: The Judy Holliday Story” portraying the lead character Judy Holliday and for her performance, Marina was awarded the Agnes Moorehead Award. She appeared in her first Broadway play a year later in Casey Nicholaw’s adaptation of the play “To Be or Not to Be”, and after that played lead roles in several off-Broadway plays such as “Manipulation” and “Beauty of the Father” among others.
In 2006, she became a member of the Canadian cappella group The Essentials and appeared in the comedy play “Perfect Harmony”.
