Early Life and Career Beginnings

Jessica Parker is of African, Italian and Russian descent. Growing up in Canada, she discovered a passion for the performing arts at a young age, leading her to start training in singing. She developed her skills through the years, and this opened the door for her to appear in a few local productions.

Her first professional project was the television movie “Santa Baby”, in which she portrayed Lucy the Elf. The movie starred Jenny McCarthy and was released through ABC, though it was filmed in her hometown of Calgary. Wanting to make it big in Hollywood, as soon as she completed her education, she moved to the US to begin auditioning.

The following year she was cast in a recurring role in the series “Kaya” which aired on MTV, and is a Canadian and American co-production, following the lives of the titular character and her band who become rock stars overnight. She then got her first main role in the film “Another Cinderella Story” which starred Selena Gomez, and is a sequel to “A Cinderella Story” which aired four years prior.

Continued Acting Work

Kennedy’s next notable role would be in the show “Smallville” in which she portrayed the character Bette Sans Souci, also known for her villain alter-ego Plastique.

The show was intended as an origin story, exploring the beginnings of Clark Kent or Superman, a character popularized by the comic imprint DC. After that appearance, she was cast in another regular role in “Valemont”, an MTV mini-series that focuses on a woman trying to find out more about a secretive university.

During the same year, she reprised her role in “Santa Baby 2: Christmas Baby”, before going on a string of guest roles. Some of her projects during this time included “V”, “Brothers & Sisters”, and “Behemoth”. In 2011, she worked alongside Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Seth Rogen in “50/50” which told the story of a person’s battle with cancer, based on the real experiences of writer Will Reiser.

During the same year, she appeared in the film “In Time” w,hich starred Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. The film is set in a dystopian future, in which people use time as a form of currency.

Rise to Prominence

In 2011, Jessica Parker gained fame when she became one of the regular cast members of the show “The Secret Circle”. The supernatural show aired on The CW and is based on the series of books of the same name written by LJ Smith. It tells the story of a woman who discovers her lineage as a witch, leading her to become a member of a secret coven. While the show started strongly, its ratings dwindled through the latter half of the season, leading to its cancellation.

This was ny no means the end for Jessica, as she then had a recurring role in the show “90210”, which is a part of the “Beverly Hills, 90210” franchise. The show tells the story of several students living in the wealthy and upscale community of Beverly Hills, tackling school, relationships, and their transition to adult life. In 2014 she was cast in one of her longest roles, as she became a main cast member of “Black Sails”. The show is based on the novel “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson, and is set in the time before the novel’s story takes place. The show ran for four seasons before the story was concluded.

Recent Projects

In 2017, Kennedy returned to regular work with a recurring role in the show “Colony”, which saw her working with the likes of Sarah Wayne Callies and Josh Holloway. After her run there,

she was cast in the thriller film “Gemini” alongside Zoe Kravitz and Lola Kirke. The film follows the story of an actress who must clear her name, after it was discovered that her boss was murdered in her home. By the end of the year, she had made her first appearance as XS, making a guest appearance in the CW show “Supergirl” which is a part of the CW’s Arrowverse, a collection of shows based on various DC franchises.

She reprised the role in 2018, as she became a recurring cast member in the television show “The Flash”, based on the popular DC character of the same name; in the fifth season, she was upgraded to a series regular. A few of her other recent projects include “Cam”, which tells the story of a camgirl and an imitator who is just like her. She also had a small role in the film “Deep Murder”, which starred Katie Aselton and Christopher McDonald.

Personal Life

Jessica Parker is single – she hasn’t gone public about any romantic relationships, preferring to keep such things away from the spotlight.

She is an advocate of rescue animal adoption, often promoting dogs that need adoption through her social media, especially since the dogs can be subject to euthanasia or harsh conditions if someone doesn’t adopt them. In recent months, she’s been busy raising funds and promoting various causes that aim to help donate more goods that countries need to combat the spread of COVID-19.

1[on her role in Black Sails (2014)] I'm not technically on the pirate ships. I do a lot of wheeling and dealing from the brothel. But I'm not in the brothel all the time, either. I'm around and about. But I have this fantasy that I'm going to turn into this really badass pirate, living on the ship and killing really smarmy men.
2I used to think being a pirate was a really, cool, sexy thing. It's not. It's terrifying. It's a really horrifying, filthy, scary world where people died from simple things. When a cannon goes off, the splinter from the wood gets in their eyes and they get an infection. Or they don't have enough to eat. Or they get scurvy. It's a terrifying way to survive.
