While his parents have a fruitful career in the medical field, Iain De Caestecker has chosen acting as his passion. He took a brave step into the unknown, which ended up being the right move as he quickly reached worldwide fame. But who truly is Iain De Caestecker?
Early Life and Education
Iain De Caestecker was born on 29 December 1987, in Glasgow, Scotland.
His mother is Dr. Linda De Caestecker, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Director of Public Health (DPH), as well as an honorary professor at Glasgow’s University, and his father is a medical doctor. Linda also spent some time working with underprivileged children in West Africa and various parts of UK. Iain isn’t an only child, as he has a twin sister called Nicky. He and his sister grew up in Glasgow where Iain attended Hillhead Primary School, and ethen graduated from Langslide College, Glasgow in 2010 with a higher national diploma (HND) in the Acting and Performance field.
De Caestecker’s acting career had actually started when he was only nine years old, when he was discovered during his acting classes. He landed a role in “Billy and Zorba”, a BBC short film from 1999, then got his second role just a year later when he performed in the comedy horror movie “The Little Vampire”. Right after that, he guested in the TV sitcom “Lip Service”, as well as starring in the UK’s most-watched and longest-running soap opera, “Coronation Street”, together with Chris Fountain; he played the character of Adam Barlow, a role which he kept for three seasons and over 50 episodes before being replaced by an older actor.
In 2011 De Caestecker earned a nomination for a BAFTA Scotland in the Best Actor/Actress – Television category for his performance in the BBC series “Young James Herriot”, and later that same year he played in another BBC sitcom, “The Fades”. In 2013 he starred in several movies, including “In Fear”, the psychological horror film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, “The Filth” and “Not Another Happy Ending”, which earned him another BAFTA nomination, in the category Best Actor/Actress – Film.
In the same year, he acted in Gabrielle Aplin’s music video for “Please Don’t Say You Love Me”. Several months later, De Caestecker landed a role that would lift him to stardom, when he became a regular in Marvel’s television show, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, playing the role of Leopold James “Leo” Fitz, a scientist and a secret agent.
He also did voice acting when that same role was transformed into an animated character for an episode of “Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister Six” on Disney XD channel.
Being a part of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” (MCU) gained him a huge fan base, loved by thousands, if not millions. As of 2020, he is still present in the series, which is now in its seventh season. In 2014, he was also featured in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut “Lost River” that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and was released in the US during April of the next year.
De Caestecker continued his stream of successful roles in following years, and in 2018 he co-starred in “Overlord”, a horror film made by director J. J. Abrams that had its premiere at Fantastic Fest.
The movie covers a group of American soldiers on the eve of D-Day, with De Caestecker playing Chase one of the military officers; the film received two nomination at the Saturn Awards in 2019. De Caestecker was also cast in the new political-thriller sitcom on BBC, “Roadkill”. In 2015 Iain De Caestecker was named “Performer of the Week” by TVLine for his performance in “Laws of Nature”.
De Caestecker does his best to keep his private life just that, and not much is known about him other than his acting endeavors.
His fans have been connecting him with many of his fellow actresses, but he’s never addressed any of the rumor; he’s never attended any public events in company of a certain female, just as no girl can be seen on his social media platforms. This has made many speculate about his sexual orientation, and gossips say that he might be gay – however, De Caestecker has several times publicly denied these rumors.
De Caestecker is active only on his Instagram profile, and even there he doesn’t post too often. He himself has stated multiple times that he dislikes social media, so his lack of regular posting isn’t anything to be surprised about.
Iain De Caestecker hhads a successful acting career for over 20 years so far, which has helped him accumulate his wealth. His net worth is estimated at around $5 million as of early 2020.
De Caestecker is considered to be rather handsome by many. He is 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall, without any visible tattoos or any kind of body modifications. His other body measurements are unknown, but it is noticeable that he has an athletic build. He has dark hair and bright blue eyes.
