Early Life and Career Beginnings
At a young age, Alicia developed a strong love for music, rock music and metal in particular, listening to popular bands of the 1980s and the 1990s, especially the music of Joan Jett, the lead singer of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Joan would become one of her biggest inspirations in terms of career direction.
After completing her education, she pursued her love of dancing which she had developed during most of her youth. She became a cheerleader in the NFL, working with the Atlanta Falcons squad; the Falcons compete in the National Football Conference (NFC) South and have appeared in the Super Bowl twice since joining the league in 1965, though they have yet to win the prestigious title.
Working with their cheerleading team meant that she performed regularly in front of 80,000 fans, not including those watching on television. The league also gave her the opportunity to travel around the world.
Leaving the NFL and Creating the Cherry Bombs
Working with the NFL meant that she had access to a lot of charity programs held by the league, including supporting the military through special shows, traveling to locations such as Kuwait, Curacao, and Djibouti, aside from visiting several schools and community events organized by the league. Eventually, she became tired of dancing to the same songs and in the same style, and wanted to progress her dance career further, but not just as a cheerleader.
Dove realized that she still had her passion for rock and metal music with her; she wanted to create a group that mixed aspects of various groups such as the Pussycat Dolls, skilled dancers who showed a sexier side while also integrating a Cirque de Soleil style, doing stunts and acrobatic performances, all while performing to hit rock ‘n’ roll music. After gathering several like-minded dancers, she created the Cherry Bombs, named after the hit song of the Joan Jett band, the Runaways. The song is considered one of the greatest rock songs of all time, and is generally recognized as the signature song of the band.
Performances and Success
The Cherry Bombs quickly caught attention with their mix of dancing, sensuality, acrobatics, stunts, and performances with fire. They were skilled in various dances and styles, thanks to a few associations, and began dancing as a front act for popular rock groups. Initially they had a mixed reception, with people mistaking them for go-go dancers due to their attire. They eventually started to gain a loyal following as they performed across the country. One of their biggest tours was when they became a front act for bands Stone Sour and Steel Panther.
Stone Sour is a band formed by Corey Taylor, and is his second band after Slipknot. Since its resurgence in the 2000s, the band has released numerous successful studio performances which have gained them Grammy Award nominations. Steel Panther, on the other hand, is known for their comedic performances, which parody the lifestyle of glam metal artists of times passed. In recent years, the group has gained enough attention that they have held solo concerts, as well as gaining praise from many of the artists that they worked with, including Corey Taylor and Chris Jericho.
They’ve also made an impact online, launching a YouTube channel that documents some of their performances as well as the journey each of the girls goes through as they tour the country.
Husband – Corey Taylor
Corey started his music career in 1992, as a founding member of the rock band Stone Sour. The group began recording music before he was approached by the metal band Slipknot which prompted him to leave Stone Sour. He began practicing with Slipknot as Number Eight – he liked the number due to it being associated with the infinity symbol. While the band didn’t do well initially, he continued working with them, leading to their successful debut album.
The group continued making music over the years, and has attracted a lot of fans and subsequently success. He returned to Stone Sour in 2002, and helped them create their debut album. Since then, the group has also become successful commercially and critically. Corey toured with both bands separately, and has also collaborated with other popular groups, including Soulfly, Code Orange, and Apocalyptica. He also made a guest narration in the Dream Theater album “Systematic Chaos”. One of his latest projects is a feature on the track “The Hunt” by Code Orange.
Dove announced that she’d become engaged to Taylor sometime in 2019. The proposal happened while they were at home, and came as a surprise because he proposed in the middle of domestic chores. It wasn’t fancy, but it was special to both of them.
She was absent for some time from Cherry Bombs after sustaining an ankle injury. While she is busy preparing for an eventual wedding, she recently returned to dancing and performance, and is making big plans for her group in 2020, but she has yet to announce what they are.
