A lot of her critics blame her for bad financial habits rather than a lack of income from YouTube.
Early Life and Career
Karuna started her YouTube channel in 2015 and before its creation, very little was known about her life. She created ASMR channels at around the same time the topic was gaining a strong amount of traction online. She produced videos featuring brushing, tapping, hand movements, whispers, and later experimented with role-playing.
Over the years, her channel grew and gained a significant number of subscribers thanks to her constant work. ASMR videos in general often encouraged creativity, as there were so many triggers that could induce the effect.
Some of her most popular videos include roleplaying to clean ears, roleplaying as an ice cream shop, and roleplaying as an employee in a sleep clinic. A lot of people subscribed and enjoyed her videos as it would help them sleep, or give them that euphoric sensation often identified with ASMR. She also uploaded videos that are considered not safe for work (NSFW), due to the sexual implications the video may have.
The Beginnings of ASMR
ASMR was at the start either a topic of taboo or an unusual sensations that not many experienced.
As many who’ve experienced it would describe, ASMR is a very light euphoric sensation, often a tingling sensation that can be felt from the back of the head to the neck, shoulders and arms. People who had experienced the sensation didn’t understand it at first, and sought other individuals who had similar experiences online.
They were often rejected and criticized for the idea, as the best word to describe it was brain orgasm. Eventually, pioneers of ASMR thought of a name for it, leading to the establishment of ASMR. Starting as a small group of people from various parts of the world, ASMR found an unusual home on the website YouTube.
Today, ASMR is one of the most popular YouTube genres, often consisting of channels handled by women who roleplay various events, using numerous stimuli to trigger the effect. One of the reasons it has become popular for YouTubers is due to the creativity it requires, as no two persons have the same set of triggers.
Still In Its Infancy
People who’ve experienced ASMR often describe their triggers differently – others feel it through whispers or the use of certain sounds. Triggers have also been reported through visual sensations, smells, touch, and through the use of other senses. The science on it is not yet very solid due to the lack of extensive research done on the subject, which is still in the early stages.
Critics have also been treating YouTube ASMR channels with skepticism, as many of them were created to try and lure in a male audience through their looks. They’ve also been criticized for taking advantage of people who are suffering from sleep disorders or panic attacks. Nevertheless, many viewers have also experienced positive effects from ASMR videos, and thousands of channels exist today to cater to the growing interest in the subject.
Dubbed as an ASMRtist, Satori is one of the few who’ve gained around a million subscribers with asole dedication to the craft. The numerous videos, interactions and views she has could amount to tens of thousands of dollars in monthly revenue.
Yet, she proclaims that she has very little money and that YouTube isn’t enough to supplement her lifestyle. This has led to many of her viewers criticizing her for bad spending habits, as she displays her expensive make-up, clothes, and jewelry to be seen in videos. Her social media accounts even boasted of having a new home that she bought a few years back.
The issue heightened even further when she started posting a wish list of gifts to be given to her children, urging subscribers to buy gifts for them. This was even though she was posting video blog content on another channel, showcasing a luxurious lifestyle.
One of the biggest factors that may have caused all these money problems is drugs.

At one point she was asking her subscribers for money so that she could go to the dentist, but ended up getting modifications done on her body, with some observant viewers noticing that she got a boob job after being given donations. Other subscribers were promised customized ASMR videos in exchange for money, but were never given what was promised.
Websites started reporting that Karuna was addicted to drugs, and has been to treatment programs several times to try and fix the issue. At one point, her addiction became so intense that her children had to be taken into Pennsylvania Child Protective Services to be safe.
She reportedly hit her husband in front of her children, and then threatened her family with a gun. The family reconciled after she had treatment, and she has been clean for a few years now.
It is known that Karuna is married to Victor, who also runs an ASMR channel called Essence of ASMR – the two have collaborated on videos numerous times during their respective careers. She does a lot of promotion for her husband, as he doesn’t have a strong social media presence, encouraging her viewers who are looking for more masculine content to head to his channel. The couple has two children together, though they rarely talk about anything outside of their work.
