Early Life and Family
Lola Grace Consuelos was born on 16 June 2001, in New York City, USA; she’s the middle child of Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa. She has an older brother, Michael Joseph, and a younger brother, Joaquin Antonio.
Her parents met on the set of one of the longest-running American TV series, “All My Children,” in 1995. Mark was auditioning for a role and Kelly, who was already an established member of the cast, was his screen test partner. They became friends and quickly turned to lovers just like their roles in the soap opera. On 1 May 1996, Mark proposed and they decided to elope and marry in Las Vegas. Just like in real life, their TV characters were married too.
Who is Mark Consuelos?
Mark is an American actor of Mexican and Italian descent, and was born on 30 March 1971 in Zaragoza, Spain. His family moved to the US when he was still a kid, and his parents raised him in Lebanon, Illinois but later on transferred to Tampa, Florida. He graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of South Florida.
In 1997 he was given a major role in the 48-episode informative TV series produced by Annenberg/CPB Project, entitled, “Connect with English,”, but it was his role as Mateo Santos in the television series, “All My Children,” in 1995 that catapulted him into stardom.
When he started working as an actor in the drama series, he was just living on someone’s living room sofa, but when he was finished with the show in 2002, he was already living in his own home.
Mark was also given the chance to act in several movies, and the most notable ones were “The Great Raid” with Benjamin Bratt, James Franco, and Connie Nielson in 2005; “Cop Out” with Bruce Willis and Kevin Pollak in 2010; “A Walk Among the Tombstones” with Liam Neeson and Dan Stevens in 2014; and “Nine Lives” with Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner in 2016.
His television career thrived, and he’s been part of many successful TV series.
The most notable have been “Missing,” with Caterina Scorsone and Vivica A Fox in which he became a regular cast member from the second season to the final season (2004-2006); “American Horror Story: Asylum” (2012-2013); “Alpha House,” a political satire series, in whoich he played a US Republican Senator along with John Goodman (2013-2014); and his current popular TV show, “Riverdale,” joining the main cast during the second season (2017-present).
Who is Kelly Ripa?
Kelly Maria Ripa is an American actress and TV personality, of Italian and Irish descent. She was born on 2 October 1970, in Berlin, New Jersey to Joseph and Ester Ripa. Her father was a labor union president and her mother a homemaker; she had a Catholic upbringing.
Kelly matriculated from Eastern Regional High School in 1989, and then enrolled into Camden County College for a Psychology degree, but left school to pursue her dream of becoming an actor in New York. She fell in love with acting when she was given the lead role during her senior year in a locally-produced stage play, “The Ugly Duckling.” Before that, she was also given local TV exposure as a dancer in “Dancin’ On Air” and “Dance Party USA” in 1986.
“All My Children”
Kelly is one of the lucky ones who were given breaks early on in their career. Even without acting experience, she didn’t need to wait long like other newbies, as after her audition she was offered the role of Hayley Vaughn in ABC’s TV series, “All My Children,”.
However, when she started filming, she discovered that she couldn’t act the role of an alcoholic with a split personality. It was the drama series’ producer who paid for her much needed acting lessons, which was all worthwhile as she was able to pull it off for 12 years, becoming one of the most beloved characters in the soap opera.
“Live! with Kelly Ripa”
Another break was given to her in 2001 by being chosen to replace Kathie Lee in the popular TV talk show, “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee” – the chemistry was sizzling and the viewership ratings increased. After 11 successful years, it was Regis Philbin’s time to say goodbye as he retired at the age of 80, and the show producers decided to let Kelly run the show alone until they found a new partner.
A former professional football player, Michael Strahan, was chosen from a long list of options to be Kelly’s new co-host, which turned out to be the right choice as the TV ratings soared 87% with “Live! with Kelly and Michael.” However, Strahan was given the chance to host a new show in 2016, and so another round of hopefuls co-hosted with Kelly until they finally chose Ryan Seacrest. “Live! with Kelly and Ryan,” started on 1 May 2017.
“Hope & Faith” TV Sitcom
ABC produced another show for her along with Faith Ford in the TV sitcom, “Hope & Faith,” in which she played a soap opera star, Faith Fairfield, whose TV character was killed off and was forced to move in with her sister Hope in Ohio, and whichhad a successful ran for three seasons from 2003 to 2006.
Kelly was remembered saying in one interview that she doesn’t want to work that hard again in her life. Apparently, she was juggling several roles at the same time, an actress, a host, and a mother.
Kelly also featured in several movies – the most unforgettable was in 1996 along with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Dianne Keaton, and Meryl Streep in “Marvin’s Room.” She played a character close to her heart, which is a soap opera actress. It was not a commercial success, but it had generally favorable reviews with 84% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
In 2007 she and her husband Mark established a production company called Milojo – the first syllables of their children’s first names, and produced movies, TV shows, and documentaries.
Lola matriculated from high school in 2019, and is currently pursuing a college degree in the prestigious Tisch School of Arts at New York University, just like her older brother, Michael. She is focused on finishing college, and hopes to graduate in 2023.
Lola is currently in a relationship with Tarek Fahmy, who was her date during her prom night in her junior and senior years in high school. Being the only girl in the family, her parents are strict with her, particularly her mother. She and her brothers were given a set of rules to follow while growing up. While they are all close, she would often be at odds with her strict mother.
