Early life and Education

Laurel Coppock was born on 22 August 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts USA; she is Caucasian and her nationality is American. Her mother is Susan Coppock, a Broadway actress and a dancer, but she’s kept information about her father private. She has two sisters, Emily, who is an appraiser and an art dealer, and Selena, an author and a stand-up comedian.

Coppock has spent most of her life on the East Coast, as she attended Weston High School in Weston, Massachusetts, and after matriculating moved to Maine US, where she enrolled at Colby College, from where she graduated. Afterwards, Coppock went on to study acting at the Circle at the Square Acting Conservatory in New York. When she graduated, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she performed in ImprovOlympic and Chicago’s Second City, while also performing with Boom Chicago in Amsterdam, Netherlands. After this, she once again moved, this time to Los Angeles, California in 2007, to further pursue her acting career.


Coppock initially landed guest roles in several series, such as “Derek and Simon: The Show”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “UCB Comedy Originals”. During the next year, she continued with small cameos, including those in the TV film “Food Chain”, and TV series’ “Downers Grove”, “Talkshow with Spike Feresten” and “The Daily Habit”.

Her breakthrough role was in 2011, when she was cast as Sophia in the romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid Love”, which starred Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore. The next year, she had a guest role in another big title, the NBC comedy TV series “The Office”, in which she portrayed Stephanie in the 2012 episode “Trivia”.

The same year she also appeared in several other television series and movies, including “How to Cheat on Your Wife”, “Zeke and Luther”, “Hard of Dixie” and “2 Broke Girls”. She also starred in “Comedy Jam”, a short film by Bryan Robbins. In 2013, Coppock portrayed Maggie in Mitchell Hurwitz’s television series “Arrested Development”, as well as Ramona in “Adam Devine’s House Party”

Becoming “Toyota girl”

The real moment that Coppock rose to fame happened in 2014. That year, she became pregnant to her husband, Bobby Mort. Coppock had worked for Toyota for several years prior to this, as one of their prominent spokeswomen and commercial faces. After revealing her pregnancy to the world, she didn’t hide the baby bump, as many women do, but instead she decided to show it to everyone, which she did during the “Saatchi and Saatchi LA” Toyota campaign that aired on Mother’s Day.

During this campaign, Coppock portrayed Jan, a cute and perky pregnant mom who loves Toyota’s new car models. This made Coppock instantly popular both on social media and on television, and helped her career greatly. She continued portraying the character of Jan even after giving birth, and is considered one of the most recognized of all the faces who have been doing ads for car companies. Later acting career

After the Toyota ad, Coppock remained in the entertainment industry for a while.

In 2015 she portrayed Emily in the last season of the TV sitcom “Hot in Cleveland”, and in 2016 portrayed three different roles in the comedy TV series – “History of the World… For Now”, one of them being the famous nanny Mary Poppins. She also got to create the voice of Amy Morgan in “Mike Tyson Mysteries”, an animated adventure comedy co-created by former boxer Mike Tyson, and in 2017 she voiced another character in the same series, called Cathy Walker.

Coppock also demonstrated her singing skills in a Toyota holiday commercial – “Jancapella”, which wowed her fans and Toyota lovers all across the world. She can also be seen in numerous stand-up comedy shows, and has been praised for her excellent comedic skills.

Personal Life

Coppock has tied the knot to her long term boyfriend, Emmy Award winning actor Bobby Mort who is famous for his roles in films “Beatdown” and “Locked Down”. Mort also wrote and produced TV sitcoms and films such as “John Laudermilk” and “The Colbert Report”. The exact date, or even year, of the couple’s wedding is kept a secret, as both of them are rather private persons who try to keep low profile, but have been seen several times on red carpet events together. Their only child, a son was born in late 2014, and despite the name of their future child being the interest of many Toyota advertisement fans, they have never revealed his name to the public.

Coppock is the main member of the Los Angeles non-profit improvisation and comedy sketch theatre group called “The Groundlings”; other members include big names such as comedians Melissa McCarthy and Will Ferrel, and talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien. She is also the co-creator of the YouTube profile “The BreakWomb”, which is operated by three talented mothers – Molly Erdman, Meghan Grano and Laurel Coppock herself.

Coppock used to be rather active on Twitter, but as of April 2020 her profile has been shut down for unknown reasons. She isn’t known to have any other social media accounts.

Coppock is living with her family in their residence in Los Angeles.
