Jay McGraw is perhaps best recognized as the son of the television celebrity psychologist Dr Phil McGraw. Despite living in the shadow of his dad, Jay has a successful career in showbiz as well. He is a writer and producer, as well as the CEO president of Stage 29 Production. He is the mastermind behind ‘RumorFix’, an anti-tabloid website dedicated to investigating rumours behind celebrity scandals that intends to either fix or confirm gossip. He was also the host of his own show – “Renovate My Family”.

Take a look at the life of Dr Phil’s son, as we compiled all there is to know about him.

Early life and family

Jay Phillip McGraw was born on 12 September in 1979, and will be turning 41 later this year (2020). Jay’s hometown is in Wichita County, Texas, USA, and he is the older of two boys born to Phillip and his wife Robin. Jay’s younger brother Jordan pursued a career in music, while Jay followed his father’s footsteps. Jay had spent most of his life in Texas, including university.

With the success of his father, it could be expected that he had a lavish and rich upbringing, but a mostly uneventful childhood.

Educational background

Jay matriculated from Greenhill High School in Addison, Texas, and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Texas, Austin. Jay furthered his studies at Southern Methodist University, in Plano, Texas where he earned a Juris Doctor degree in Law.

Jay’s career took off when he published his first books; these were all titles aimed at improving the lives of children and teenagers. He established himself as an author with titles including “The Ultimate Weight Solution For Teens: The Seven Keys To Weight Freedom”, “Life Strategies for Teens”, and “Closing The Gap: A Strategy For Bringing Parents and Teens Together”.

Jay co-founded the production house Stage 29 Productions with the aid of his dad, Dr Phil, and has also aided a few productions of the Dr Phil Show.

His production career has seen many highlights and has afforded him a few awards; these productions include “Decision House”’ in 2007,  “The Doctors” in 2008, and in 2016 he was the producer of “Bull”.

Jay was also the host of the hit reality TV series “Renovate My Family”, dedicated to renovating the homes and lives of everyday American citizens who needed help. It was on the set of the show that Jay met his future wife Erica, who is one of a set of triplets.

Apart from that, Jay is also a popular personality and motivational speaker, having appeared on shows that include “The Early Show”, “Good Morning America”, “Entertainment Tonight” and “Today and Extra”.

Jay has also featured as a columnist, with articles for ‘Cosmo Girl’ and the magazine ‘Seventeen’. In recent times, Jay has continued his career as a chairman and co-founder of ‘Doctor on Demand’ with Adam Jackson. He is also the owner of ‘RumorFixed’, a website that has been criticized for being too similar to ‘Gossip Cop’.

Hobbies, favourite things and interesting facts

Jay is certainly a talented man. Not only did he complete two very difficult degrees at varsity, but he is also a capable athlete.

He is skilled in golf and likes to play the sport, but keeps active by practising Taekwondo, and has even been graded with a blackbelt in the martial art of his choice. On top of that is both a licensed aviator and scuba-diver. With all those brains and the brawn behind it, he was sure to have a successful life.

Jay has had only one romantic involvement that attracted public notice, and it happens to be with his soulmate and partner, Erica Dahm.

Erica is an ex-Playboy model, and considered among the finest yet produced by the provocative magazine. She is also one of three identical triplets. Jay proposed to Erica in August of the year 2005 with a five-carat diamond, emerald and platinum ring. The pair made their vows on 12 August 2006 in a small ceremony at his parents’ home in Beverly Hills, in front of 70 guests. They have two children, a daughter, Avery Elizabeth on 18 March in 2010, and son London Phillip born on 31 August 2011.
