Who is Don Lemon?

Donald Carlton Lemon was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA, on 1 March 1966 – his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American nationality. He is a TV journalist, who gained recognition after he joined the popular TV network CNN in September 2006.

Early life and education

Don was raised in Baton Rouge by his parents who both hold college degrees, and he is of French descent from his great-grandfather’s side, as well as of Congolese, Cameroonian and Nigerian descent.

Don studied at Baker High School, and there became interested in journalism while being one of the best students at the school – during his final year there, he was chosen to serve as his class’ president. Motivated by his parents and decisive in pursuing a career as a journalist, Don enrolled at Louisiana State University in 1984, then switched to Brooklyn College from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism in 1988. While at college, Don was also somewhat sporting, as he occasionally played football and soccer.

Career as a journalist

Don launched his career while still attending college, as he worked for the WNYW network as their news assistant – not long after that, he was invited to work for Fox News.

Upon obtaining his Bachelor’s degree, Don joined the network WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, and served as their news anchor before being invited to work for WCAU located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Don then moved to St. Louis in Missouri to work as an anchor for KTVI, and was then invited to work for NBC News, serving as the correspondent for several of their shows including “NBC Nightly News” and “Today” – he could also have been seen anchoring the MSNBC show “Weekend Today”. The year 2003 saw him start working for the WMAQ-TV network as their news co-anchor and reporter, and during his time there, Don won three Emmy Awards.

Don has been hosting the CNN’s show “New Year’s Eve Special” since 2014; he has always been honest concerning the TV network’s quality of news, and has questioned its work. In October 2017, Don had to call the police after he received racial death threats, and in January 2018, he started one of his broadcasts by saying ‘This is CNN Tonight, I’m Don Lemon. The President of the United States is racist’.

Don Lemon

This made him an enemy of Trump voters and white supremacists, but Don went on to state that immigrants are not as dangerous to the US as white supremacists.

On 31 January 2018, Don decided to take a week off after his sister L’Tanya ‘Leisa’ Lemon Grimes was found drowned in a pond – she was 58, and accidentally fell into the pond and drowned while fishing. Upon returning to work on 6 February, Don thanked all his supporters for their kind words.

Don is also a bit of a writer, as he published his book “Transparent” back in 2011.

Love life and husband

When Don was five, he was sexually molested by a kid who lived in his neighborhood, but Don only opened up to his mother about it when he turned 30. He didn’t come out as gay until publishing his book, making him one of not so many people in the broadcasting business who are openly gay or lesbian – Don’s book was dedicated to Tyler Clementi, a man who committed suicide after his roommate announced on the internet that Tyler was gay. According to Don, he has known that he is gay since he was five.

In early 2017, Don met real estate agent Tim Malone, and they started dating not long afterwards.

In April 2019, Don announced on his social media networks that the two were engaged. Two months later, the bartender Dustin Hice sued Don for allegedly attacking him without being provoked in any way – some people have claimed that the bartender was hitting on Tim, which is why Don attacked him.

As of November 2020, Don is engaged, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Don is physically active, as he has several training sessions at the gym each week, and is following a healthy diet thus his somewhat muscular body – he spends most of his time sitting which is why he decided to start going to the gym.

He likes to travel, and his career as a journalist has taken him all around the US, while he has also been to several European countries such as France, Italy and England, and to a couple of African countries.

In his spare time which is mostly late at night, Don likes to watch movies, and his favorite actor and actress are Will Smith and Rosario Dawson, while a few of his favorite movies are “I Am Legend”, “I, Robot” and “Men in Black”.
