Early life and family
Imani was born 12 August 1993, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. She was raised by her father among her five brothers, but their identities have been kept quiet, and no record of her father or brothers can be found anywhere.
However, Imani did praise her father for being a good dad, and stated that he sacrificed a lot in his life to provide for his children. Nothing else is known about the actress’ upbringing, except that she first aspired to become an actress at the young age of seven.
Although it is not stated in any reports where Imani attended school, it is known that she had taken numerous acting classes. At the age of seven, she enrolled at the Karamu House Theatre in Cleveland, where she received her first training as an actress and performed in several stage productions.
She furthered her education in the performing arts when she had moved to California for the production of “Everybody Hates Chris”. She studied at Alexander Workshop School in Lakewood, and later at The Young Actor’s Space in Burbank.
Imani’s first appearance on television was in a McDonald’s advert when she was only eight years old. Her big breakthrough came when cast in “Everybody Hates Chris” in 2005. She was eleven years old at the time, and the show aired until 2009, during which time Imani continued to play the role of Tonya Rock.

The next year Imani made her film debut in the major motion picture “Reign Over Me”, starring alongside several big names, which include Adam Sandler, Liv Tyler and Jada Pinket-Smith.
In 2014 Imani played the title role in “The Gabby Douglas Story”, based on the life of a 13-year-old American Olympic gold medalist, and earned Imani two Movieguide Awards, one for Outstanding Actress in a TV Film or Mini-Series.
In 2015, the young lady starred alongside Vivica Fox in the major film “Chocolate City”, and in 2017 reprised the role for the sequel “Chocolate City: Vegas Strip”. The following year, she gained a role in the Sci-Fi disaster comedy sequel “Sharknado: The 4th Awakens”.
The year 2017 had been a busy time for the young actress. Although she was on the set of “Chocolate City: Vegas Strip”, Imani found the time to be featured in two more roles, in “Sollers Point” and “Burning Sands”, and in 2018 could be seen in two more productions, the television film “Down With Whatever”, and the psychological horror film “Cam”.
Her latest appearance is in a 2020 production for an Apple TV+ fantasy series by the title “Mythic Quest” which premiered on 7 February..
