There’s not much information about Larray’s childhood and educational background. Although the identity of his family is unknown, in an interview with AwesomenessTV, he revealed that he has 13 siblings: ‘Fun fact. I have thirteen siblings, and I’m not even joking. My dad…My dad’s um…He’s ‘been around the block’ is the best way I can say that’.
Although Larray grew up in Los Angeles, at some point in his teens he moved with his father outside of the city.
Larray began his career as a content creator in 2015, when he started sharing funny videos on Vine, and son gained more than 100,000 followers. Although Larray’s Vines are no longer available as the app is now discontinued, compilation videos of his content can be found on the internet.
After gaining a huge following on Vine, and long before the web was closed, Larray had already begun exploring more options, and started his own YouTube channel.
His debut on the platform was with the video entitled “My Night Routine!”, which dates back to 15 June 2015, and has to date attracted more than a million views.
YouTube’s video structure proved to be positive for Larray, as he could share longer videos on a wide variety of topics including lifestyle, make-up, fashion, video games and internet viral challenges. Larray now has more than six million subscribers to his channel.
Besides collaborating with other famous YouTubers such as James Charles and The Dolan Twins, Larray has also released various songs such as “First Place”, “Last Place”, “Latina”, “Thanos” and “Canceled”.
Recently Larray started posting content on the short video app TikTok, on which he has gained more than 12 millions followers.
His content on the web consists of funny videos of himself and his friends dancing, and other comedic situations.
His immense fame on TikTok also gained him a spot in The Hype House, a creative collective formed by 19 members in early 2020, with the goal to be a “collab house”, a tradition of influencers which consist of a group living together in a house. This can provide creators with the necessary means to work as a team, but also to help them find ‘emotional support for what can be a grueling career’, as the New York Times states.
The idea to create The Hype House came from Chase Hudson, Larray’s fellow TikTok star and friend. The house is located in Los Angeles.
What is the origin of his stage name?
Larray is a combination of his name Larri and the second name of pop star Miley “Ray” Cyrus, who was Larray’s childhood idol and favorite singer.
Larray has affirmed his ethnicity is mixed, as his mother is Caucasian and his father is Afro Latino.
Larray is openly gay, and in March 2019 started dating his fellow influencer and TikToker Brady Potter, who is also a current member of The Hype House. In October 2020, Larray celebrated their relationship with a lovely pic of them together posted on Instagram: ‘relationships comes with a lot of ups and downs, but somehow a year and 6 months later u still find a way to put up with me. happy anniversary bebe aka white man John Smith.’ The pic has accumulated more than a million likes and over 26,000 comments.
Relationship With His Father
In the past Larray has made various jokes regarding his relationship with his father, including comparing him with Marvel’s villain Thanos from the movie “Avengers: Endgame”, as they both supposedly have ‘disappeared’.
Despite his nonchalant attitude about it and the negative speculations regarding his relationship with his father, Larray posted a pic with his progenitor on his Instagram account in June 2020 with the following caption: ‘happy fathers day dad. Miss u’.
Although the post was meant to celebrate the love between father and son, the post awakened more rumors, and some Larray’s fans asked if his father was dead.
Larray refuted those rumors in a later video, revealing his father is currently imprisoned, which is the reason he misses him.
In September 2020 a link to channel45news was posted by someone on the internet, which revealed that supposedly Larray had died, stating the cause as ‘epilepsy in home functions’.
Although the topic was serious, it was later revealed that the post was a prank, and that Larray is very much alive. Despite this, some of Larray’s fans started inquiring on his social media accounts about his current health.
In July 2020, Larray attended a surprise party for his birthday, organized by the model and influencer Nikita Dragun.
The celebration was attended by several online celebrities, such as Charli D’Amelio and James Charles. The party was strongly criticized by the media, as it was held during the pandemic lockdown in Los Angeles, where there’s currently a rise of COVID-19 cases. The YouTuber Tyler Oakley also publicly showed his disapproval of the party, tagging some of the assistants of it – including Larray – on Twitter, with the message: ‘please consider social distancing, mask wearing, & using your huge platforms to encourage responsibility during a worldwide pandemic’.
Larray answered this Tweet saying: ‘i understand 100% where ur coming from & it was a dumb thing to do. I will do better & will actually take this shit seriously. appreciate you tyler much love’.
Larray’s estimated net worth is over $1 million as of late 2020, which is a result of his work as a social media influencer, YouTuber and TikToker.
