Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao was born in Cojimar, Havana, Cuba, on 3 March 1997 – her zodiac sign is Pisces and she holds both American and Cuban nationality. She is a singer and a songwriter, who gained recognition after joining the American girl group Fifth Harmony which was formed in 2012 trhough the reality TV music competition show “The X Factor”.
Early life and education
Camila was raised alongside her younger sister Sofia in Havana and Mexico City, by their father Alejandro Cabello who is Mexican, and their mother Sinuhe Estrabao who is Cuban – the family often travelled between Mexico City and Havana, until at the age of five, Camila settled with her mother in Miami in Florida, while her father joined them a year and a half later as he wasn’t able to get his visa.
Camila became an American citizen in 2008.
She studied at Miami Palmetto High School, but dropped out during her final year to focus on her singing career, but later went on to obtain her high school diploma.
Career as a singer
In 2012, Camila decided to enter the music competition show “The X Factor”, and was called back on stage after being eliminated, as Simon Cowell decided to help her, Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui, found their band Fifth Harmony – the girls were then signed to Syco Music, a record label owned by Cowell.
On 18 October 2013, the girls released their debut extended play (EP) entitled “Better Together”, followed by their first two full-length albums, “Reflection” in 2015 and “7/27” in 2016 – two songs from these albums entitled “Work from Home” and “Worth It” became hits, reaching top 10 on charts in many countries. In November 2015, Camila together with famous Canadian singer Shawn Mendes, sang the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, and it peaked at #18 in Canada and #20 in the USA – she also collaborated with the rapper Machine Gun Kelly on the song “Bad Things” which peaked at #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
It was announced on 18 December 2016 that Camila would be leaving Fifth Harmony, but she went on to collaborate with various artists, such as Cashmere Cat, Pitbull and J Balvin, and released her debut single “Crying in the Club” on 19 May 2017, which find itself at #47 on the US Billboard 200 Chart. She then released her single “Havana” which featured the rapper Young Thug, and the song topped the charts in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, Hungary, France and Italy.
On 12 January 2018, Camila released her eponymous debut album which topped the US charts, eventually becoming certified platinum – she was nominated for two Grammy Awards in December 2018 for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
On 21 June 2019, Camila released the song “Senorita” in collaboration with Shawn Mendes, which peaked at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and won the two a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Her second album “Romance” came out on 6 December 2019.
Camila is about to launch her acting career in late 2020, as she has recently been cast to play the lead character in the upcoming romantic musical comedy movie “Cinderella”, which will also star Billy Porter and Idina Menzel, and will follow an orphan girl who is dreaming about meeting her prince charming.
Love life and boyfriend
In February 2018, Camila began dating British life coach, writer and YouTuber Matthew Hussey, after having met him on the set of the American news and talk show “Today” – they dated for around a year before splitting for unknown reasons.
In July 2019, she started dating Shawn Mendes after the two had collaborated on various occasions, however, their fans believed that their relationship was only there to make both of them more famous, however, Camila has said that she is fighting obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety, and that Shawn has been there to help her cope with her problems.
Camila also dated American singer-songwriter Austin Mahone from late 2013 to mid-2014, and in 2015 was in a relationship with Australian singer-songwriter, Michael Clifford. As of November 2020, she is dating Shawn Mendes, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Camila’s main hobby is volunteering with charity organizations, and in February 2016 she worked with the Save the Children Fund to raise awareness of girls having the same access to health care, education and various other opportunities as men.
