Early Life and Education
Blanca Suarez was born the daughter of Jose Martinez and Laura Suarez. Though her early education is undisclosed, it’s known that she was studied Visual Communications at King Juan Carlos University after her high school matriculation.
Coming from an adventurous family, Blanca spent a long time on the road as a child: ‘My parents are mountaineers and I used to ask them why weren’t we like other kids and went to the beach instead, until they finally acquiesced to do it half-and-half.
I remember with special warmth the picnics in incredible places after we spent all day walking, hunting tadpoles at the lake and the tales I asked my mother to tell me as we hiked.’
As a kid, Blanca performed in the theatre Triton in various child plays. She has an older brother named Pedro Martinez Suarez.
Blanca chose to use her mother’s maiden name as her artistic name. While attending University, Blanca was discovered by casting director Luis San Narciso, who offered her a debut role in “The Boarding School” in 2007. She left her studies to appear in this series, in which she plays Julia Medina’s character, one of her most unforgettable roles.
The show ended in 2010, while concurrently she appeared in various movies such as “Shiver”, “The Consul of Sodom”, “Neon Flesh” and the short “Hemisphere”.
2011 – 2017: Movies and Series
In 2011 Blanca landed one of the most important and awarded roles of her career in the movie “The Skin I live In”, directed by Pedro Almodovar. The story centers on Dr. Robert Ledgard, whose tragic past drives his obsession on creating skin resistant to any kind of damage. Starring along with Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya, Blanca received a nomination at the acclaimed Goya Awards as “Best New Actress” for this movie.
Then she was cast in the series “The Boat” – originally entitled “El Bote”.
The events in this drama series occur when an accident in Switzerland causes a cataclysm. Because of this, students of Estrella Polar School enroll in an adventure that pushes them to fight for their lives. Blanca’s role as Ainhoa Montero was rewarded with a Fotogramas de Plata Award, in the category “Best Television Actress”. In 2012 she was rewarded in the same category, this time by Cosmopolitan Fun Fearless Awards.
In 2013 she worked for the second time with director Pedro Almodovar in the movie “I’m So Excited”, starring Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz. The same year she briefly appeared in two fantasy themed series: as Snow White in “Tell Me a Story”, and as Beauty in “The Beauty and the Beast” Spanish adaptation.
Never taking a break from acting, in 2015 Blanca appeared in movies such as “Off Course”, “The Ours” and “My Big Night”. She also appeared in nine episodes of “Charles, King Emperor” as Isabella of Portugal in 2016. After this role she acted in two movies: in “My Bakery in Brooklyn” and “El Bar”.
Cable Girls and Recent Projects: 2017 – Present
In 2017 she obtained one of the most important roles of her career, when she was cast as Lidia Aguilar in “Cable Girls”. The successful Netflix series is set in the 1920s, and centers on the life of four women operators in a ‘phone company, who despite their different lives can find more than a few things in common between them.
Currently, Blanca is set to appear as Isabel in “El Verano que Vivimos”, and in the TV series “Jaguar”.
Blanca has been rewarded several times for her work as actress.
For “The Boarding School”, Blanca received her first honor in 2009 at New Talent of Spanish Cinema Awards as “Best New Actress”. For this series, she was also rewarded at Monte-Carlo Television Festival Awards and in Fotogramas de Plata Awards.
Along other awards, she received a Trophée Chopard in 2013 as “Female Revelation of the Year”.
She has also received rewards non-related to her acting skills, such as “Most Searched Performer on the Internet” in 2011 and 2015, along a Neox Fan Award in the category “Most Attractive Couple” in 2013, while she dated Miguel Angel Silvestre.
Blanca’s beauty has led her to collaborate as a model with various brands such as Angel Schlesser, Samsung, Jaguar, Guerlain, Adidas and Royal Bliss. However, she talked to Spanish journal El Pais in 2014 about her career as model: ‘I care about appearance. In this profession it’s important but it doesn’t obsess me. I’m not Gisele Bündchen and my a*s is not in shape. I do these collaborations because my appearance is of use… But I’m aware I’m not a model’.
From 2008 to 2010, Blanca maintained a romantic relationship with Javier Pereira, actor in “Stockholm”. The next year she started dating “Velvet” protagonist, actor Miguel Angel Silvestre.
The couple was together for three years, until rumors of separation arise when they attended 2014’s Goya Awards separately, confirmed when they announced their break up the following week. It was speculated that Blanca left Silvestre to date singer Dani Martin, who also broke up with his girlfriend at the time, and these rumors were confirmed when in February 2014 Martin and Suarez started dating, although for a short time.
In 2015 Blanca found herself in love once again, with Joel Bosqued, but the relationship ended in 2017 – in 2020 Bosqued announced his engagement to Selene Ramal, but he briefly talked about Suarez in an interview: ‘We have the same agent. I know about her because I see her every where’.
In March 2018 she started another relationship, with Mario Casas, who she described as her ‘icon’. The couple, who were friends for years until they decided to date, ended their romance in October 2019 after almost two years together.
In 2020 Suarez found love once again, when she was spotted kissing actor Javier Rey, with whom she worked in the film “El Verano que Vivimos”.
In 2017 Blanca declared: ‘I absolutely agree that it (feminism) is a trend, right now we even create t-shirts about it. I think is good that it has gathered strength because it’s always welcome to solve stuff that hasn’t been solved.’
She also declared to El Mundo about the role of feminism in “Cable Girls”: ‘Feminism can be considered another character of the series’ (…) ‘I don’t think the series have been conceived with that feminism motto.

One of the motivations and handicaps that the characters have is the struggle for work equality, human, in every aspect of work and life”.
Blanca’s words though, were considered ‘ambiguous and fearful’, and the media pointed out how she was trying to distance herself and her career from the feminism tag, being purposely vague in her words.
