Who is Andy Buckley?

Andrew P. Buckley Jr. was born on 13 February 1965, in Salem, Massachusetts, USA. He is an actor, stockbroker, and screenwriter, probably best known for his work in the US version of the television series “The Office”, in which he portrayed the character, David Wallace. He was with the show during its entire run.

The Wealth of Andy Buckley

As of early-2020, Andy Buckley’s net worth is estimated to be over $5 million, earned through a successful career in the acting profession, appearing in numerous notable television projects and films since 1990. Apart from his work in entertainment, he’s also achieved significant wealth with success in the stock markets.

Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings

Andy was raised in Salem alongside two brothers and a sister by their parents, and attended Pine Crest High School. At this time, he didn’t intend on pursuing a career as an actor. He spent some time in Florida due to his high school education and after matriculating, he enrolled at Stanford University, taking up a degree in political science.

He was a part of one of the world’s top universities, and completed his degree in 1987. During his time with the school, he was a member of the Stanford Men’s Golf Team.

However, after graduating he discovered his passion for acting, and began training as a part of the Groundlings Theatre, honing his improvisational skills as well as performing in comedy sketches. He also worked with other notable members who went on to find success in mainstream acting, including Dax Shepard and Melissa McCarthy. In the 1990s he began taking up mostly independent projects, appearing in small roles.

Rise to Prominence

Buckley’s most notable project during the 1990s was working in a couple of music videos for country artist Reba McEntire, namely “What If It’s You” and “I’d Rather Ride Around with You”.

He also made guest appearances in “Silk Stalkings” and “Melrose Place”. In 2002, he made his mainstream film debut in “Grand Champion”, which starred George Strait and Emma Roberts, and was notable for having numerous notable cameos such as Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis.

He also appeared in a three-episode role in “Pacific Blue”, playing the character Teddy Callaway. The crime show follows the lives of a team of police officers working at the Santa Monica Police Department, often patrolling the popular beaches of the area – at the time the show was described as ‘“Baywatch” on bikes’, and finding popularity in several countries.

Other projects he worked on were guest appearances in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “NYPD Blue”, and “The District”. Before getting cast in his biggest role in “The Office”, he also worked on the television movie “Big Shot: Confessions of a Campus Bookie” and the direct-to-video movie “Blood Trail”.

The Office

In 2006, Andy would become a main cast member in one of the most popular shows of the late 2000s to early-2010s, “The Office”. The sitcom is set in a fictional paper company, following the lives of its employees. It features a mockumentary style format, where the employees are being filmed by a documentary film crew, which means they can engage with the camera while also doing mock interviews as a part of the show’s direction.

The show featured many notable names such as Steve Carell and John Krasinski. While it had a bit of a slow start, the show eventually picked-up and received many positive reviews during its run.

Steve Carrell won a Golden Globe for his role, and the show won four Primetime Emmy Awards. The show received acclaim for its tone, structure, comedy and content. During the later seasons, the show was criticized with a sudden decline in quality which could be attributed to Carrell leaving the show to pursue other projects. In the series Andy portrays the Chief Financial Officer of the fictional company Dunder Mifflin, introduced into the show during its second season, and is seen as one of its wealthy executives.

His character is known for being unusually tolerant of the eccentricities of manager Michael Scott, portrayed by Carrell.

Recent Projects

While working on “The Office”, Buckley had other opportunities, including one of the main roles in the show “The Lying Game” which lasted for two seasons, and was loosely based on the Sara Shepard books of the same name. Due to its cancellation, the show remained unresolved, ending with a cliffhanger. After “The Office”, he had a recurring role in the series “Scorpion”, which is based on the life of self-proclaimed computer whiz Walter O’Brien who also produced the show.

The series received favorable reviews throughout its four seasons.

One of his recent television projects is “The Fugitive”, which is currently in production, and is said to be based on the 1993 film of the same name. In films, he had a small role in “Horrible Bosses 2” and followed it up with an appearance in “Jurassic World”, a part of the “Jurassic Park” film series, responsible for the resurgence in the popularity of films, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time. A few of his latest film projects include “A Million Little Pieces” and “All Light Will End”.

Personal Life

Andy married acting coach Nancy Banks and they have two children together. While “The Office” ended over seven years ago, he still caters to his fans on social media, a lot of whom remember his character from the show and his infamous song “Suck It”. He also remains very interested and passionate about comedy, often making various comedic posts online. Despite his song’s popularity, he admits that he can’t sing and can’t carry a tune. He only did one musical in his career, and was so bad at singing that he had to have other soloists perform the song while he acted on stage.
